Early last month, I ordered a port of my landline phone number out of Verizon and into Sfax. Last week I was notified that it had gone through. Today I called Verizon to make sure that my account with them was closed. I authenticated to the automated system, and it said it was, but I wanted to talk to a human to confirm that I didn't need to do ( Read more... )

I had, once upon a time, a hilarious account of an automated phone survey encountering one of those early touch-tone responsive answering machines. The end was something to the effect of, "When I came into the room to find out who the answering machine was talking to, we had over a 1,000 children, all over 100 years old. That survey company never called our house again."

ETA: This also reminds me of the Intelligent Telephone Answering Machine Love Song. About which I can find nothing online. It concerns two answering machines who fall in love, and set up their owners on a date.
