try plugging it into a different usb slot on the computer.

try downloading all the updates for windows, just because you have xp doesn't mean anything.

go to device manager under settings -> system and then plug in your sk
if a new device pops up, uninstall it. You might find it under usb or unknown devices. It might have a yellow exclamation point next to it.
Once you have done this, restart, login and then plug it in; preferably to a rear usb port. Give xp time to do its thing, do not remove prematurely. Then look for it under my computer -> removable

There is also the option of wiping the card with a mini-sd reader to ensure there are no issues with the card itself.

i don't have a PC, so i always have to use other people's computer's to put things on my memory card. using the cord doesn't work on ANY computer i've ever tried, but i have a memory card reader for my digital cameras and it's got a mini sd slot, so i just use that instead. i got it supercheap at best buy for like $5. might be worth the investment if you've got a digital camera. :)

also, going along with a couple of the other suggestions you've gotten... your computer might take a while to recognize that something new is there... have you tried just leaving it plugged in and waiting to see if it loads?

Yeah I have left it plugged in for over 2 hours and it does nothing.
I think I'll buy one of the memory card readers.
