Excellent choices. Ani DiFranco is from Buffalo, but I somehow never heard of her until I went to college and my roommate was all excited that I was from Buffalo because he was a huge fan of hers. Also, agreed that Hurt is one of the best songs ever.

I can pinpoint the exact moment in my life when I first heard Johnny Cash covering it. I was in a Humptys truckstop restaurant with my friends, and there was a TV in the smoking section, tuned to Country Music Television (all-country music videos). I heard the opening strains, and then saw Johnny. I half-stood out of my chair, and said in a fairly loud voice, "EVERYONE BE QUIET". The smokers in the area all were kind enough to shut up and let me listen and watch Johnny cover one of the greatest songs ever written. I cried.
