Race issues are so complicated. I had never heard of white priv until earlier this year when someone threw out the term in an lj comm and i went to look it up. honestly my attitude before that was always- "i don't sit down and contemplate my race all the time. its a very minor part of who i am. perhaps if people of different races didn't sit around and contemplate their race all the time either they wouldn't have half the problems." so then i learned this concept of white priv and how people of other races are often forced during the day to constantly be reminded of their race by others and it was a new perspective to consider. (to be honest i also thought that cries of racism today were overblown, because i've hardly seen it personally in my life against others in my presence and the friends i had of different races didn't talk about racism much). then i moved to dc and i saw/heard racism in person more and i was really shocked that its still going on at all in this country. there's something strange when almost everyone elite
