Ha! But when has Jack EVER laid all his cards on the table? As Gibbs says, after the mutiny, Jack has played close to the vest, refusing to trust anyone at all, to the detriment of his own plans. If we look at what Jack should have done in CotBP, he should have explained to Will how he planned to bargain with Barbossa and save Will and Elizaberth, but instead he makes Will suspicious enough to whack him on the head with an oar. If he'd taken Will as a true partner in the venture, most of CotBP wouldn't have happened, either.

I wondered about what the consequences of killing Davy Jones would be. Jack mentioned that there'd be no one to call off the beastie, but I thought there was probably more to it than that. I like your revised script. ;)

You have such great taste in icons! The Libertine one, your default one - and the PotC ones never fail to make me laugh.

Anyway... I thought of another question. Unless I missed something, it doesn't explain how Davy Jones controls the beastie. He tells one of his men to summon it, so it must be tied to the ship and the crew somehow. So might it be that whoever kills Jones and becomes captain of the Dutchman gets to control the Kraken?

I like your revised script. ;)

Thanks, lol. I just realised that it's technically my first DMC fanfic. Oh dear. I imagined it would be something more arty.

Every time Jones summons the Kracken, his crew have to work the capstan and some sort of pillar rises out of it, so I wonder if there is some form of call or coercion linked with the Flying Dutchman.

LOL, thanks! :D Now that I have a paid acct, I'll have even more icons.

As Honorat said above, they raise a pillar with the capstan. When it drops down, it makes a loud thunk that echos through the water. It must follow the Flying Dutchman, because it always shows up pretty quickly.

he piper must be paid [...] the ship [must have] a Captain, free to sail the seas forever. and escort the spirit of lost sailors [...]

I actually picked up on that from the movie, but was also convinced that it would add so much depth that I was making the entire thing up. But now I'm a happy girl!
