I think you've really succeeded in making Giselle real here, with depth and emotion and everything. Very well done. It's funny, too, in a sad sort of way.

Thank you! In my head the story was going to be pure angst, but it turned out more cynical and, hopefully, funnier than that...

I love it! I agree with all the comments above. Despite all the cynicism she must have built up, Giselle has a tiny part that dreams and hopes like Brandy in the song of the same name.

"Yeah, Brandy used to watch his eyes
When he told his sailor stories
She could feel the ocean fall and rise
She saw its ragin' glory
But he had always told the truth, Lord, he was an honest man
And Brandy does her best to understand"

Since I've decided to costume myself as a wench (I don't look a thing like Elizabeth), I find myself thinking about their interactions with Jack, other than the slapping. It's wonderful to read a story from Giselle's perspective!

Wenches are cool. Giselle scrubs up to be prettier than Elizabeth, in my opinion. :-) I had a look at your sewing project pictures, and wow, the stays and the cardinal hood in particular are so beautiful! You're very talented.
