Summary: The love and loyalty of one member is about to be tested.
The SM building had changed a lot since Hyukjae could remember. He had to keep telling himself 'Four years.' It's just...it was strange, when he looks up and he's there! Staring back in four different ways, with 13 other performers surrounding him.
Do I really want to give this all up...Whatever this is...
Why are your fingers so dirty?
There was no question - yes. If he never had to deal with those jerks again, yes again and again. He hurried down the hall as he caught sight of a man from the Internet.
“Hey.” He approached the man. “You're my manager, right? Super Junior's manager?”
“Eunhyuk-shi! How're you feeling?” The joy and relief was shining bright in the elder's eyes. “Is everything alright?”
He was asking because for the longest second, Hyukjae just stood there. He had to remind himself again that most people knew him and called him by Eunhyuk. “Uh...yes. I'm fine. But I was wondering if I could talk to Soo Man-shi?”
He was quiet for a moment or two when his manager finally answered. “Well...follow him.” He motioned down the hall.
He'd never been in the office of Lee Soo Man - thankfully. So stepping inside was something of a breath-taking experience.
“Gae Tan? Eunhyuk-shi...is there something you need?” The old man asked.
Hyukjae entered slowly, ever so. “I wanted to talk to you, sir. About Super Junior.”
“I see.” Soo Man closed up whatever he had been attending to and gestured to the chair before him. “Have a seat. You've just gotten out the hospital - how are you?”
“Actually sir...” Hyukjae looked at his manager and back to his CEO. “At the hospital...when I woke up....I can't remember anything, sir.”
“I believe I don't follow.”
“Four years, sir. I can't remember the last four years. I've been trying, but...” He pulled his phone out. “My mother called me yesterday and when I asked her my ringtone...she laughed at me.”
“What is your ringtone?” Gae Tan asked.
“Uh...Sorry, Sorry, I think?”
Soo Man smiled...maybe. “That's the song you're currently promoting - you and your group. Do you know about them?”
“Yes - they told me about it in the hospital. That's why I'm here. I'd...I'd like to withdraw from the group.” Hyukjae fiddled with his phone. “I don't know the song. I don't know if I could...perform to the expectations you have of me. And Jungsu-hyung, I mean Leeteuk-shi, told me this is their comeback. They can't put it on hold for me, because it's possible I may never remember.”
Soo Man nodded and nodded and nodded, mulling over the proposal in his mind. “We've heard a lot of talk about withdrawals lately...” Hyukjae furrowed his eyebrows together...confused and interested. Soo Man chuckled. “Of course, you don't know anything about that.” The book from before opened up and he hunched over with pen in hand.
Hyukjae and Gae Tan looked at each other in question. Soo Man, not hearing chairs pushed back or door closing, looked up. “Is there anything else?”
“Oh no. I'm sorry. Thank you, sir.” Hyukjae stood up and bowed. Gae Tan left after him.
