Note: HEY! This is from my 2011 post! It's late, but hey! I got it!

School wasn’t all that interesting. Come, fight with Yamada, explain it to Yuto, listen to a teacher drawl on and on about useless knowledge, leave. Just once, Ryutaro wanted something different in his life.

“Class we have a new student with us today.” The bimbo shouted above the chattering teenagers. “This is Chinen Yuri.”

Well this is surely it.

Ryutaro was sure that he wasn’t the only one looking at those…things on top of Chinen-san’s head. They, well, they looked like cat ears. But, they couldn’t be. Chinen-san was a human, not a cat. At least…he looked very human.

Chinen-san didn’t seem to be bothered by all the attention. He laid his bag against the teacher’s desk and addressed his new class with a wide smile. “My name is Chinen Yuri and I have a few things to say. Yes they’re real. No, I did not get plastic surgery. No, my mom did not sleep with a cat. Any questions?”

Nobody wanted to say it, so Ryutaro shouldn’t have been surprised when Yuto was the one to raise his hand. “Then how did you get them?”

Chinen-san shrugged. “My nee-chan and me were just born with them. We’ve always had them.”

The teacher cleared her throat. “Very well then. Chinen-san, you can have that desk beside Nakajima-san.” She gestured as such and Chinen-san obeyed.

“I’m Nakajima Yuto!” The boy introduced himself. “This is my boyfriend Yamada Ryosuke and this is Morimoto Ryutaro.”

“Yuto!” The two hissed.

“Do you want to be friends?” Yuto ignored them, focusing all his attention on Chinen-san.

The newcomer smiled back. “Sure. But I think we should be quiet; Sensei is glaring at us.” The three blushed and turned to the lesson at hand. Chinen-san wouldn’t hold back the laughter.
-------------------------------------Time passed and slowly, Ryutaro wasn’t all that weirded out by the prospect of hanging out with someone with cat ears. It was probably after he realized that Chinen as a whole was weird. Maybe it was the ears though. After all, didn’t cats love to be petted? Why else would Chinen always sit in somebody’s lap? And why did it always have to be his?!

Also, ‘Chinen-san’ had turned into ‘Chinen’ at some point.

“Ryutaro, look. Here come the upperclassmen.” Yamada teased.

He really needed to get a hold of his emotions. He couldn’t help it when his head spun around and his mouth went dry.

Okamoto Keito and his upperclassmen friends. Well, screw the friends, Okamoto Keito!

“Hey guys.” The deep voice greeted in passing.

The others nodded and five minutes after he’d gone, they all laughed when Ryutaro squeaked, “Hi senpai!” He blushed deep red promptly thereafter.

“You like him.” Chinen said, looking up at him from his lap-pillow.

“I do not!” Ryutaro denied, just like he did every other time this was brought up.

“Yes you do.” Chinen sat up, staring at him. His cat ears twitched as he spoke this time. “Call it animal-senses, but I know you do.”

“See, now we have proof that you like him. So save us all some time and confess already.” Yamada insisted. Ryutaro glared - Yamada was the number one instigator of This Conversation. How proud he must be feeling.

“Ryu-chan?” Chinen turned his attention back to him. “What are you going to do?”

He went back to blushing red and avoided Chinen’s eyes. “He wouldn’t like me. I mean…he’s so much older. He has older friends. There’s no reason he would look at me.”

Chinen maneuvered his head around to look into Ryutaro’s puppy-dog eyes. “You never know until you try.” He smiled that gentle smile.

“But…I don’t even know where to start.” He whispered… - and tried not to glare as Yuto and Yamada started giggling.

“I’ll help you!” Chinen exclaimed brightly and his ears were pointed more than Ryutaro had ever seen them be. In all honesty, he was scared to say no.
-------------------------------------They had planned for two weeks in Chinen’s room - because Ryutaro insisted that at his house, Shintaro would snitch and the whole plan would be ruined - and now the day was finally here. And Ryutaro couldn’t be anything but scared for his life.

“Chinen, I’m not so sure about this.” Ryutaro fiddled with his uniform, looking at Keito from across the campus.

“Relax!~” Chinen insisted. “We’ve done this a hundred times. Just go up to him, tell him you like him, and wait for him to say something. Now go! Lunch is over in half an hour!”

“Couldn’t I just write him a letter?”

“NO! He likes the forward approach. Now go!” Chinen stepped behind the younger and gave him a firm push towards their senpai. Ryutaro looked back on him with wide eyes, scared and anxious, but Chinen waved him on.

He watched, on bated breath, the boy approach Keito. Keito leaned against the concrete stairs of the school, laughing with his friends when Ryutaro arrived. With so many eyes on him, Ryutaro must’ve felt horrified. His eyes watched the movement of Ryutaro’s lips. “I like you.” He said, not looking anyone in the eye.

Now he had to wait on Keito.

Apparently, Keito didn’t have him wait too long. He approached Ryutaro and pulled his chin up with two fingers. “Are you free Saturday?” Ryutaro nodded eagerly and Keito smiled back and Chinen pumped his fists in victory. He told Ryutaro this would work out.

The fists stilled against his chest. There wasn’t any meaning for him to stay in Tokyo any longer. Dejected, he turned around and walked along the campus.

Ryutaro returned to class later, giddy as a he could be. Vaguely, he wondered why Chinen wasn’t in the seat next to him.
-------------------------------------Saturday came quickly and suddenly, Ryutaro was standing in front of the train station. Keito approached him with that happy smile and they set out.

When he takes you out, keep the conversation simple. Ask what he likes, not what he doesn’t.

Ryutaro paused in his steps, looking all around. “What’s wrong?” He didn’t reply to Keito’s asking. What could he say - I thought I heard my cat-friend? Ryutaro turned around, smiling. “Nothing.” He walked forward, leading them away from the awkward moment.

They entered the café, standing in line looking over the menu.

If you go somewhere to eat, order first. This shows him you aren’t nervous around him.

There it was again, Chinen’s voice. He tried to be subtle, looking left to right. And even more to his surprise, for a split second - he thought he saw Chinen.

Like a bag of rocks, it hit him. All this time, he had slowly fallen for Chinen.

Keito leaned on his shoulder, looking with a concerned expression. “Are you feeling okay, Ryutaro?”

“Yeah. I feel fine.” Ryutaro looked Keito straight on. “I’m sorry, Keito-senpai. I…I was wrong about my feelings for you. I hope we can still be friends.”

Strangely enough, Keito was okay with that. “As long as you pay me back on Monday.” Ryutaro was laughing with him, right before he dashed out the café.
-------------------------------------This was…this was not right. Ryutaro had been to Chinen’s house a lot over the past two weeks. And it didn’t look as…barren and cold as it did right now.

He raced to the front door - it was unlocked. And standing in the hallway was Chinen - Chinen Yuri, with cat ears and all - holding a suitcase. “Chinen…”

Chinen was surprised, standing still in line with Ryutaro’s sight. “Ryutaro…” He looked away, as if ashamed of his appearance. “What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be with Okamoto-senpai?”

Ryutaro walked in and suddenly, he was the confident one. “Why should I be? It’s not like I like him.” The ears twitched in curiousity and Chinen looked at him with wide eyes as Ryutaro approached. “Not the way I like you.”

“Eh?” The message was not clear. Not until Ryutaro was towering over him with a hand gently on his cheek. Tears were welled in his eyes. “Iya…you’re not supposed to like me…” Chinen forced himself to pull away from the inviting touch.

“Why shouldn’t I?”

“Because you’re supposed to like Okamoto-senpai.” Chinen whispered over his shoulder. “Nee-chan and I move from place to place, helping people confess to the ones they like, and then we move on. But you…” The tears were tight in his eyes and he had to skewer them shut, “I tried so hard not to fall for you.”

Ryutaro laughed. His feet rounded the small boy until he was staring him in the face. He lifted Chinen’s chin by two fingers and brushed those tears away. “Well don’t try anymore.” He stepped into the elder’s personal space, ever-personal, and kissed him.

Ryutaro suddenly realized, at that moment, Chinen Yuri had a tail.

A/N: Somebody tell me it's not true! That Ryu-chan is still only suspended. Please don't tell me he withdrew! RYU-CHAN!!!~
