Summary: A cute inspiration on a story Babara Walters covered
Two years - two lonely years without anyone by his side - were finally coming to an end for Jungsu. Why? Because today was the day Youngwoon was returning from the army.
The bus was supposed to come in at 9 AM at Seoul Park. Of course he couldn't wait - Jungsu woke up at 5. Everything had to be perfect for Youngwoon's return. Everybody was going to be there when he was coming back, but he wanted to be the one to catch his eye. He wanted to be the most important.
“Hurry up, everybody! We don't want to be late!” He yells out at the door. Like the children they raised together [Well, he'd like to think that they'd raised them. After all, they were Umma and Appa.] they trudged forward. He ushered them out to the car, ignoring the annoyed looks they were giving him. Hey, who could blame him for being anxious?
They got there at 8:30. Other families stood in no orderly fashion, all as anxious as him. Most of the members were still half-asleep - Hyukjae leaned on Donghee heavily, eyes shut; it was funny he was awake - a complete opposite of Jungsu's wide-awake personality.
He looked down at his watch and his heart jumped up and down in his chest. Nine o'clock on the dot and...
The bus rolled into the park and a collective gasp came from everyone. Jungsu was giddy - it was hard not to charge the bus. Two years... was all he could think. Two years...
The doors opened and the clones stepped out. Alike smiles spread across their faces as they were re-joined with mothers, brothers and sisters, girlfriends and wives - as they were re-joined with their families.
Jungsu looked this way and that (he even went up on his tip-toes) for that familiar face - Youngwoon's familiar face. There were still a few men stepping out - he'd be there. Unconsciously, he wrung his hands together. He wasn't worried - just anxious.
The families were beginning to go home. The bus started up and left. The members returned to the car. And Youngwoon wasn't there. Youngwoon wasn't coming home. Jongwoon placed a hand on his shoulder. “Hyung, maybe his family was here and we missed him. Don't worry - we'll see him soon.”
“Yeah...I guess.” His body slumped. Jongwoon forced a smile, grabbing hold of Super Junior's leader and directing him to the car.
Jungsu allowed himself to be moved and placed in the vehicle, staring out the window. He fiddled with a simple chain around his neck absent-mindingly.
Suddenly he realized something. The ring was gone. The ring the necklace was supposed to hold was gone - completely gone. “Youngjie-hyung! Can you go back to the park? I think I might've lost something.” He urged. Thankfully, their manager didn't seem to mind.
He bounded out the car, sweeping over the ground. He tripped onto his knees and felt around the gravel. It had to be here - it just had to be here somewhere. There's no way he could've lost such an important item.
Summertime - the perfect couples' season. And it was the last few days before Youngwoon would leave for the army.
Youngwoon had invited him out to the park. After a tasty picnic of smoothies and kimbap, Jungsu laid against Youngwoon's chest, ready to fall into the food coma.
Youngwoon stopped his ministrations in Jungsu's hair, looking down at his hyung. “Jungsu-ah...I have something for you.” Jungsu woke up, watching the younger reach into his pocket. “Hmm? What are you talking about?” He sat up, more alert.
Youngwoon's hand retracted. A small box sat in his hand. Jungsu could feel his heart go tight. Youngwoon opened it up. Two metal bands gleamed in the sunlight. (After getting his breath back from a loud gasp) Jungsu looked up at Youngwoon's anxious face. “Are you serious? I mean...are you serious?”
Youngwoon laughed, taking one out and placing it on Jungsu's hand. “Of course I am. Why shouldn't I be?”
Jungsu looked at it, leaning against Youngwoon's chest with a smile. Which slowly vanished. “But...you're leaving soon.”
“That's right” Youngwoon pursed his lips. He reached around and grabbed the box, placing it in Jungsu's hand. “How about this? You hold onto both of them and when I come back, I'll take mine.”
“You promise?” Youngwoon nodded. Jungsu smiled - dimples and alls - and surged up to kiss his lover with all the passion he could muster. And then some.
No, there was no way he could lose it. It just...wasn't possible. If he lost it...oh god, he couldn't have lost it.
“Leeteuk-hyung...we have to go. You're making a scene.” Hyukjae came up behind him, helping him off his knees. “We'll search for it tomorrow.”
“I lost it, Hyukjae. I lost it.” He muttered over and over. Once again, he was directed to the car, but this time, he didn't even know where he was going. All he knew was...he lost it. The world was dark.
How could he have lost it? How could he have treated something so important so trivial?! He didn't deserve Youngwoon's love.
“Hyung, we're home.” Hyukjae poked at him. He looked at the younger from his peripheral. Getting out the backseat, he blindly followed Hyukjae into the dorms. He just wanted to curl up over the ring he had so easily lost. Hyukjae forced a smile, patting his back. “Hyung, I'm sure Youngwoon-hyung still loves you.”
“Yeah, I know.” He mumbled, not really paying attention. Jungsu pulled away from the rapper, walking towards his room. Eyes trained on the floor, he moved on routine. Button-up off, shirt pulled up, pants pulled down - he removed the covers and slid into his bed.
“Never thought you were this eager.”
Turning around, Jungsu's eyes shot open. “Kangin!?” He jumped up.
Youngwoon smiled, leaning against the door. “What? Are you going to leave me hanging here?”
Jungsu (after a tussle with the blankets) jumped out of bed and charged at his lover. Youngwoon laughed, hugging him back. “I thought you weren't coming back.”
“I told you I'd come back.”
They pulled away. “But...where were you? I waited for you for an hour - you never showed up.”
“I came home yesterday so I could surprise you.”
Jungsu grinned from ear to ear. He hugged Youngwoon once again - just so he knew that this was real.
But...if this was real...didn't it mean he still lost the ring?
“Youngwoon-ah...I...” He pulled away completely this time, turning away. “I...I have something to tell you...I...”
Youngwoon chuckled, wrapping his arms around the elder's waist. “This wouldn't have anything to do with the ring I bought you before I left, now would it?”
Jungsu turned around, eyes wide. “How did you know?”
“I said I would surprise you, didn't I?” He lifted their hands together and Jungsu saw it. The band, wrapped around Youngwoon's third finger.
Jungsu's face ran over a whole plethora of emotions - happiness, shock, confusion - and he finally looked his lover in the face. “When did you get it?”
“Last night, when you were sleeping.” Jungsu quirked his head. “Heechul told me the new code before I left.” He reached into his back pocket, pulling out a flimsy piece of paper. “Speaking of which, this is from him.” Jungsu took it, leaning into Youngwoon's chest as he read.
Teukie-ah,
Well...there's not much I can say. The army sucks, but it's the army. I guess that's it.
I hear you're raising a kid and you're going to be married. Looks like they're keeping you busy to stall your enlisting. And I say they should - you need to enjoy some time with Youngwoon-ah. I'm sure he's been missing you like crazy. Try to control yourselves in public.
Milky Skin,
Kim Heechul.
Jungsu laughed, folding the letter back up with care and delicacy. Such like his dongsaeng.
“Now...” Youngwoon lifted his chin, “you haven't kissed me since I came back.”
Jungsu smiled. He should keep up with his duties as a doting boyfriend.
