Summary: Geng and Siwon find their small family expanding once again.
When Geng first finds out he's pregnant for the 5th time - when he's hunched over the porcelain bowl for the 24th time in the week - all he can think of is 'Oh, God.' He's not really sure if that's good or not.
He decides to go to the doctor to make sure this isn't his past coming to haunt him and that the gastric gases in his stomach are behaving properly. The clinic looks at him with smiles - they've seen him through from his twins to Henry and he is a welcomed face. Unfortunately. it's February and if he knows anything, it's that there is a rise of conceptions in February. Damn Winter and it's need for 'Inside Action.' So he's forced to take a seat and wait.
The profile beside him looks overly familiar. He's not one of tact and subtly, so he tips forward to try and look at the face. Of course, he's caught and a pair of stone-cold eyes glare at him. Thing is, they immediately change to recognition. "You're Siwonnie's husband, aren't you. What is it...Hankyung?"
He realizes why he didn't recognize the man at first - honestly, he greatly dislikes this man. Kim Heechul (Choi Siwon's old friend from high school) smiled at him and relaxed in his seat with his arms crossed over his chest. "What are you doing here? Don't you already have 5 kids?" He said with a hint of humor.
"Apparently, I have enough skin to stomach another." Geng tried to laugh at his bad joke. "Are you here for your first?"
"Hopefully." Geng pulled a face and Heechul rolled his eyes. "Me and Kangin have been trying for a while."
"Are you...are you here for testing?"
Heechul looked down at his stomach - his flat, un-bloated, un-pregnant stomach - and frowned. "This is the third doctor. The other two said everything's OK."
Geng nodded - he didn't really know what to say. According to Siwon, Kangin and Heechul had gotten married 6 months ago. And if his guess was right, they'd been 'trying' since the honeymoon. If Heechul wasn't pregnant by then... For once, Geng's disdain for the man turned to sympathy. If he could, he would without a doubt switch fertility with the man.
"Han Geng." The nurse called and he smiled at her. Rising to his feet, he was hesitant in his steps past the elder male. "Heechul-shi...good luck." The words seemed improper, but Geng was sure he saw a smile on Heechul's face. Whether it the sentiment was actually felt or Heechul thought him simple, Geng didn't really care to find out.
The doctor - Dr. Qiu - laughed as soon as he stepped in. "Long time no see, Geng." Geng blushed and laid against the sheeted bed. "Well, let's see, shall we?"
You would think after four births, he would be used to the cold gel used for the ultra-sound. Geng at least believed he would be. Of course, he was not and as soon as Dr. Qiu placed the first drop, he squealed and arched off the bed. Dr. Qiu laughed and Geng glared at him. "Yuchun de nuedai kuang."
Geng looked at the screen along with the good doctor and his breath hitched. Two small gray blobs shone brightly on the monochromatic screen. Twins...he was having twins again. "Well...that looks like all the confirmation we need."
Dr. Qiu gave him a few tissues to wipe off the gel and Geng sat up pulling his shirt down. "Doctor...do you think you can still write up the report. You know...so I can show Siwon?" The wise old man nodded and as Geng paid, the sheet was already printed out and ready.
He looked into the waiting room - Heechul was nowhere to be found. He shouldn't be nosy, but he couldn't help it. "Miss, has Kim Heechul been attended to?"
The nurse looked at him in curiosity. Geng had no relation to the man...did he? He most certainly seemed surprised to see the other Korean. But nonetheless, she took a quick look into the patients. "Why yes. A while ago. He left close to a half an hour."
"And...what did the doctor have to say?" Geng mentally slapped himself. "You can't tell me, can you? Nevermind I asked. Thank you." He bowed his head and walked out the clinic to his car.
Henry and Kyuhyun were down for the count that night and Ryeowook, Donghae, and Mi were watching the last of the 9 o'clock cartoons when Geng finished the dishes. Simultaneously, Siwon finished his report for work and looked up at him. "Something's on your mind. What is it?"
Geng dried his hands. He avoided Siwon's eyes and stared at the counter of the island that seperated him and the dinner table Siwon now sat at. "I saw Heechul today."
"Did you now? What's new with him?"
"He and Kangin are trying to make a baby."
Siwon pulled a face. "Where did you see him?"
"At the clinic. He was getting a fertility test."
"The clinic?" Siwon stood up and walked to his husband. He stepped into Geng's personal bubble with his hands on the elder's arms. "What were you doing there?"
Geng sighed and pulled the slip from his back pocket. "Shi Yuan...I'm pregnant."
Siwon looked at him with a stark-white face and slowly, he tipped his head down to the report. Geng let him take it in his own hands and put his palms down his back pockets. Siwon leaned over the island, his eyes never leaving the black and white. He drew a hand through his hair. "How...when..."
Geng couldn't help but laugh. "Siwon, this isn't the first time. You know exactly how and when. Well, maybe not when, but the answer still counts."
Siwon looked at him with an expression clearly saying this was no time for humor. "Geng...six kids? I mean, I've heard of big families - "
"Seven."
Siwon raised a Shi-brow. "Huh?"
"Seven - it's twins."
"Twins..." Siwon said under his breath. He returned to hunched over the island. "Oh Dear Father."
Geng bit his lip and mirrored the position beside him. "Siwon...if you think we can't handle it...I mean, Heechul's wanting a child. We could..."
"No, no it's not that." Siwon looked at him, straight into his eyes. "I'm happy. I am. But...Henry needs attention as it is. And Kyuhyun is a handful. Donghae and Mi...I'm afraid we won't be able to keep up with it all."
Geng smiled at him and cradled his husband's cheek. "You don't have as much faith in our children as you should." He stepped closer and his arms wrapped about Siwon's waist. His head laid against the younger's chest - his heart was racing just the same as his was at the clinic. "But this has to be our choice - do you really want to have this kid with me?"
Siwon folded the paper over with one hand and hugged the Chinaman briefly. He kissed Geng's forehead and fell to his knees with one Han hand in his Choi palms. "Han Geng - will you be the father of my child?" Geng giggled and slapped Siwon's shoulder. Siwon stood and hid Geng's lips in his own. "Do you want to tell the boys tomorrow at breakfast." Geng nodded dumbly. His mind was too focused on getting another kiss.
Donghae and Mi were good little angels at the breakfast table - mainly for the fact neither of them were awake. Geng bounced around, putting down plates of rice and omelet before each of his children and his husband.
"I have to run. Bye sweetheart." Siwon leaned in for a kiss and while he received one, he also heard Geng whisper, "I'll tell them soon. Have a nice day at work."
Geng was finished with the last of the dishes when he was going to tell them. They were watching television in the other room. "Boys, come in here." He called with a towel in his hands. Like little soldiers, they marched in and stood at attention in front of him. He kneeled down to their height and looked at them all in the eyes - a skill he mastered when Henry was 18 months. "Now I don't want to hear any moaning or groaning. But you guys are going to help me and Appa. Okay?"
Donghae's head cocked to the side. "Baba, are we moving?" Changing houses had been on his mind since his friend Kibum moved with his parents - Shindong and Yesung - to a country called 'America'.
Geng stroked his cheek and smiled. "No. Our family's just getting bigger."
Ryeowook recognized this phrase and instantly his eyes grew big and bright. "We're having another baby!?"
In a surprise to Geng, Kyuhyun's eyes did the same with wonder and expectation. "Really!? A baby! Are they twins? Or triplets! Or quar...quar...quad..."
Geng laughed a little more and ruffled his second youngest's hair. "You're right, Kui Xian. Twins. And the word you want is 'quadruplets'." He saw Kyuhyun mull the word over.
Henry had gotten on his knees and crawled over to him. Using Geng's knee as an anchor, he stood again and pointed to himself. "Baby?"
Geng sat on the ground and pulled his youngest into his lap. "Even littler than you, Henli. You're gonna be a Ge. So you have to help everybody out. Hao la?"
"Baba still loves Henli, right?" Geng smiled brightly and gave Henry an eskimo kiss. It always did the trick to tickle the baby and it always would. "Baba and Appa still and always will love Henli."
He turned to his other four and gave them a look somewhere between stern and relaxed. "So you boys all have to help, okay?"
The twins, Ryeowook, and Kyuhyun all gave firm nods. They raised a fist. "Hwaiting!" Geng laughed and did the same. "Jiao Yo!"
Thanks to the many pregnancies, by Kyuhyun Geng's mind was immune to the numerous outlandish cravings and uncontrollable mood swings that came along with being knocked up. However, his body was not, no matter what. He took to eating dinner earlier than everyone else to help lessen what he would throw up the next morning. Unfortunately, that didn't work, as his stomach would want more food for the two little ones. So, back to the porcelain bowl everything went. But hey, he got to sleep easier.
As for sleep, that was another grateful thing that remained constant. Siwon had sometime during dinner preparations changed the sheets so the a few flat pillows could be snuck in without upsetting the two of them too much. He cuddled Geng every night - not that he already did not - and was sure to make the man go to bed before he overworked himself.
Donghae held the door wide open and Mi carried in the groceries, even though they were dragging on the floor. It was the fifth month in and he had already begun to grow a belly. It was times like these that he was glad he chose to be a stay-at-home father instead of continuing his career as an accountant. Moving around made him exhausted. The trip was necessary, nonetheless. He picked the boys up from Day Care after school on his way from the store to his check-up. His twins were healthy boys, kicking gently at his abdomen.
"Baba, I'll go wake Henli up now." Mi announced. He jogged up the stairs two by two. Geng giggled at his eldest's eagerness. Something he got from his father, he was sure.
Donghae tugged at his pant leg as he sat down on the living room couch. "Baba, I'll put the groceries away now." Geng nodded at him and tousled his head. Donghae giggled and dragged the bags along the floor into the kitchen. Mi came down not too long after and the trio played together. Really, Mi and Henry played on the floor with a ball Henry loved, using Geng's parted feet as a goal post.
An hour later - and many goals from Henry's part - Siwon came in the door with Kyuhyun asleep on his shoulder and holding Ryeowook by the hand. "They had a dodgeball contest at school today." Geng made a sympathetic face. His Kyu had a fierce competitive streak in him - he'd play until he dropped dead. "I'm going to go put him to bed." Geng once again nodded and returned to watching the passing game. Ryeowook joined on Henry's side.
Siwon came down the stairs and gave him his kiss 'Hello.' "So, what do you want for dinner?"
Geng waved his hand. He summoned strength and rose to his feet. "I've rested long enough. I'll make dinner." He kissed Siwon's cheek and turned to the kitchen. Stepping forward just as the ball rolled under his foot, he lost his balance. Siwon barely missed him, his head hitting the floor with a throbbing and echoing thud. Geng groaned and held his temple. What a headache. Siwon and the boys surrounded him with panicked faces. "I'm fine. I'm - OH!" He wasn't fine. Just as he tried to sit up, he fell back down to the ground and turned on his side. His stomach felt like it was full of stones - painful, painful rocks. He wrapped his arms around it and curled into a ball.
"Mi, go get the phone. Tell them Baba's fallen. Go, Go!" The twins went with each other. Siwon turned Geng's face to look at him and somewhat wished he didn't. His skin had quickly reddened and tears streamed fluidly down from his eyes. "Han Geng, what hurts? You have to tell me."
"Siwon...stomach..." He cringed and turned back onto his side. The words made Siwon freeze. His stomach...the babies. Oh Dear Father. "OH!" Geng screamed. Kyuhyun came running down the stairs and froze on the threshold. Siwon barked another order. "Li Xu, take your brothers upstairs." Ryeowook didn't seem to hear him - he was crying along with his brothers - so Siwon repeated himself in a yell. The little boy shook and grabbed Henry and took Kyuhyun by the hand up the stairs.
The ambulence couldn't arrive quick enough - 10 minutes - and all Siwon could do was stroke Geng's tears away and hold his hand. They put him on the stretcher - before the even put him in the van he was administered an anesthetic. Geng was out like a light. Siwon brushed back his bangs; he couldn't stop the nagging voice in his head. This was not Geng. Geng's sleeping face was never this expressionless. You could see the emotions in his sleep - happiness, fear, tragedy. Never nothing.
He paced in the waiting room. People stared at him strangely and he recited all his psalms in his head to not scream at them. His thumb was beginning to sting a little from all his biting. He looked down the hall and then returned to his pacing. The doctors took their sweet...time with analyzing Geng.
"Siwon-shi?" A familiar voice made him turn. His hopes rose - the doctor?
No - Youngwoon. "Hyung...what are you doing here?" Youngwoon had been sitting in one of the small chairs and he now walked towards him.
"Heechul's in there with his sister. What about you?" The elder studied Siwon and he didn't like it. It made him squirm. "Are the boys alright?"
"Yes. Yes, they're fine. It's Hankyung." Siwon looked down the hall again. Nothing - he faced Youngwoon. "He's fell today."
"He fell? That shouldn't be too much for the hospital."
"No. You don't understand. He's pregnant." Siwon moved from his thumb to his lip. "If anything happens..."He whispered under his breath.
"Pregnant? Oh my..." Youngwoon let out a breath. He clasped a hand on Siwon's shoulder. "Siwon, he'll pull through. You have to have confidence in your husband."
"It's not that." Siwon worried his lip some more and broke away from Youngwoon's hold. And continued his pacing.
Footsteps came closer. Both husbands looked down to the hallway. "Choi Han Geng?"
"Yes." Siwon crowded around the wise man. "How is he?
"It actually wasn't as bad as we thought it was. He'll be fine as long as he stays off his feet for a while. At least until the end of this trimester." The doctor checked the clipboard to make sure he hadn't missed anything.
"Um...are the...are the boys ok?" The doctor raised an eyebrow. Had there been someone else in the fall. "The...the babies. He had twins, they said."
"Oh." The doctor blushed quickly and then smiled. "Yes, they're fine. The fall only shook them slightly. Nothing more than a slight baby kick." He made a wave down the hall. "He's down that hall - Room 523." Siwon thanked him and took off like a bullet down.
Geng, coincidentally, just opened his eyes from the drug as Siwon opened the door. "Siwon..." His hands came out from under the blanket over his stomach. "Are they...am I...?"
Siwon in the blink of an eye came to his husband's side and took his hand. "No; they're alright. You just have to relax for a month. Ok?" Geng smiled at him and kissed Siwon's knuckles. "I'm sorry for worrying you." Siwon forced a smile. He crouched over and laid his lips on Geng's forehead. "I'm sorry for volunteering to burn the house down." Geng laughed.
The next four months were less exciting as they wore on - aside from Geng's resistance to his prescription of 'Bed' and 'Rest.' The day came that his contractions burst through his stomach. Siwon - who had packed the bag since Month 7 - waddled his husband to the car and drove to the hospital. This was his 5th birth - that didn't mean Siwon was immune to the hilarious scene that was Geng in labor.
Geng was in the hospital room, screaming. And for the first time since the fall, Siwon had that nagging feeling in the back of his head. Geng was screaming a lot more than he had been for the other times. The doctor came in and gently pressed his fingers against Geng's stomach. An apprehensive look crossed over the doctor's face. "Choi-shi, I'm afraid you will have to step out of the room."
"What? Wait, what's going on?" Siwon let himself be jostled out, but he still watched Geng over his shoulder disappear.
"Nurse!" A young woman came out the room with a clipboard and a pen ready to write. " Administer the patient with 500 milligrams of an anesthetic and prep him for an Caesarean." The nurse nodded and returned in.
"Wait - a Caesarean? Isn't that...is that a C-seciton?" Siwon's Shibrows rose and knitted together. "Geng has never needed a C-section. What's going on?"
The doctor - Siwon realized was the same one as the fall - made a sad face. "Apparently, the fall knotted the sacs the twins were in together. They could still form and get nutrients, but they can't exit the womb safely. Don't worry, Choi-shi. This actually isn't as dangerous as it may seem."
"Seung Jo-shi, we're ready." The nurse opened the door. The doctor nodded and fled from Siwon's sight. Leaving him alone in the hallway, where he now knew nothing about his suffering other half. An overwhelming feeling of De Ja Vu washed down over him as he paced in the waiting room. He justified it in his head - he had tried to sit still in the chairs. They were just too small, too low, too - helpless. Pacing at least let him do something.
Ten minutes...twenty minutes...his legs were beginning to get tired. And still no news. And the nurses were beginning to give him glares when he stepped close to the station. He had asked them for news seven too many times.
At the half hour mark - and four cups of coffee later - his cell phone rang. He made a face - he had called off work for the past two weeks. Who would be calling him? "Hello?"
"Appa - it's Donghae. Where's my little brothers?" His voice was full of excitement and it put a true smile on Siwon's face.
Siwon sat down in a seat. He ran his hand over his face. "No - not yet Hae. We're...I'm still waiting."
"But I want my brothers now!" Donghae moaned and Siwon laughed.
"Xingfu qinglai naxie dengdai shui." Siwon preeched. He could see Donghae pout. "Deh." He laughed. A bit of relief crossed over his shoulders and he slouched in his seat. "How are you boys?"
"Ge's helping Grannie make cookies. Kyu and Wookie are playing with Henry." It sounded as if Donghae turned away and check on his dongsaengs. "Well, actually, Kyu is playing his video games and Henry is sleeping in Wookie's lap."
Siwon smiled. Closing his eyes, he could almost see it. Mi and Donghae helping Geng's mother with the baking. Kyu playing video games. Wookie and Henry would be playing a game with a ball beside the couch. And on the couch, sleeping like the two babies that were on his chest and in his arms, was his beautiful husband. It was a glorious sight. "Donghae, watch over your brothers, arasso?"
Donghae made an affirmative sound. "Hwaiting!"
Siwon laughed once again. "Hwaiting." He clicked off his phone and he relaxed in his seat.
On his other shoulder, a hand tapped him on the shoulder. The conversation had taken another ten minutes and the doctor told him that the C-section was over - and successful. Geng and was waiting for him with the twins; never in his life had Siwon ran so fast.
The Geng before him now was more beautiful than his daydream had been. In each arm, two blue bundles cuddled up to his chest. "Hey Baby." Siwon grinned at him. At his side, he kissed his husband passionately. "Hey Baby." He said back.
He took one and held him against his heart. The baby opened his eyes from his sleep and stared at him. Siwon tickled his cheek. "Hey there, Baby Boy. I'm your Appa." The baby smiled up at him - an extremely gummy smile. Siwon giggled and looked up at Geng. "He's smiling, Geng." Geng chuckled at his easy amusement. Siwon turned back to the smiling baby. "Have you thought of any names?"
Geng nodded and looked at the other twin. "Their chinese names, of course. You can choose their birth names." He gave the one in his arms an Eskimo kiss. "This one is older; I thought of Cheng Min." He looked at the younger. "I thought of En He for him." He gestured with his chin.
Siwon mulled over in his mind. "Hmm...what about Sungmin and Eunhyuk."
Geng smiled. "Works for me." They kissed again.
When the boys were a month old, Siwon received a letter from Heechul. He rose an eyebrow and showed it to Geng, who had the little twins sleeping in his arms on the couch. Geng opened it with gentle hands.
Heechul and Kangin had a little boy - Leeteuk. Geng smiled and showed the picture to his husband. Heechul was in the hospital bed with Kangin's arms around him. In his own arms, a small baby snoozed peacefully. "Looks like everybody got a happy ending."
Siwon looked around. Donghae, Mi, and Kyuhyun were playing a game. Ryeowook and Henry were peacefully watching, giggling when Donghae and Mi beat Kyuhyun and Kyuhyun pouted. He looked back down at Geng and kissed him. "That's right."
A/N: Here's a few things I would like to point out.
a) I know absolutely nothing about pregnancies. I'm still in school and the closest thing I've had to pregnancies is my Sister-in-law's baby shower.
b) The humor of the labor is because I'm listening to Christopher Titus. Seriously, the story of his wife's labor is hilarious.
c) The fall and the C-section are suppose to stand for the pain SJM went through from the last time they were in China to now
d) Yuchun de nuedai kuang - Stupid Sadist
e) Xingfu qinglai naxie dengdai shui - Happiness comes to those who wait
And that is part 6 of the SJM Family Arc
