The boys were bouncing up and down even before Geng got them breakfast. Siwon - the excited oaf - had let the surprise zoo visit slip a long time ago. Not that Geng could blame him.
"Baba, are we gonna see fishies?"
"Yes, Donghae."
"What about the bears? Are we gonna see them too?"
"Yes, Donghae." Geng laughed from behind the wheel.
"Can we go to the petting zoo, Baba?" Henry piped up.
"Of course, Henli-ah."
Siwon turned around, looking at the 5. "Boys, let Baba drive. We'll make sure to see everything in the zoo." The kids laughed and chatted among themselves.
"Don't be so hard on them, Siwon. They're excited." Geng said.
"I just want to make sure we don't die."
"Are you you saying my driving is bad?"
Siwon kissed his cheek. "You said it, baby, not me." In the backseat, Ryeowook and Mi giggled. Geng playfully glared at him out of the corner of his eye.
Entering, they were dragged to the aquarium by Donghae. He stared at the bright scales going past and made faces back at them. "Fishy! Fishy!" He called when ne looked back at him. Siwon sat beside his son making faces - first with the fishe, then in a contest with Donghae. Geng slipped his phone out of his pocket and snapped out picture - for memory's sake. No, he'd never blackmail his husband - never!
Moving away from the fish, the family looked at more sea creatures. A turtle passed by the window and Ryeowook squeaked. Geng picked him up in shock. "Li Xu, what's wrong?"
Ryeowook pointed at the window and Geng slowly approached it. The turtle passed by again and Ryeowook squeaked. Geng laughed and tickled the child. "Li Xu, it's just a Wu Gui. Like Yesunggie." Carefully, Geng pulled the stuff animal away and wiggled it infront of the glass.
The turtle passed by quickly for the third time and stopped. It stared at the green creature smiling back at him. "Li Xu! Ryeowookie, look!" Geng jostled Ryeowook and the 4-year-old looked up.
"Yesunggie?" He babbled and giggled, laughter bubbling out. "Baba! Dai Yesunggie!" Ryeowook leaned out Geng's arms and grabbed the stuffed animal, shaking it een more widly. Geng watched with a wide smile on his face. And if he could believe it, the turtle smiled back.
They walked out and along the walk-way. Mi grabbed Siwon's hand and dragged him to the elephants. Just at that moment, they were all blown back by the trumpeting of the trunks. Mi laughed, jumping up and down with Donghae.
Not far away, a pack of wolves stalked about. Kyuhyun leaned over the edge - earning a scolding from his parents - and howled at them. It echoed across the exhibit and Siwon would bet, even across the zoo. The canines looked up to the sky and howled themselves. Kyuhyun squealed like the little child he was and Siwon pinched his cheeks.
Geng felt uneasy when they entered the petting zoo beside the wolves. Siwon set Henry down and the youngest made a complete line for the center table. On it, scurried around a small family of hamsters inside their penn. Henry had an imaginary conversation with them in a language no combination of his parents could understand.
Siwon picked him up again and moved him along. Henry fussed in his arms and started to cry. "Henry...Henry! Calm down. We're just going to wash your hands, ok? Don't you want to hold Hamster-shi?" Henry stopped crying and gave the most innocent eyes Siwon had ever seen.
Henry continued to fuss impatiently, saying he was, "Done!" even when his hands were covered with soap. Siwon sat back, happily resting while Henry tried to grab at a ball of fur. One rolled into his palm and he held it close to his face. It chewed on pellets in its chubby cheeks. Henry giggled and puffed out his cheeks. Geng slapped a hand over Kyuhyun's mouth before he could say his brother looked like a swollen grape.
They walked into a restaurant and sat down. "Ah! I'm tir~ed!" Kyuhyun complained.
"You can't be tired!" Donghae squealed.
"We still have to go to the Bird House!" Mi finished.
"Bird House?" Henry echoed.
"Henli, everytime we go to the zoo, Appa and Baba go to the Bird House!" Mi said.
"Because they're crazy." Kyuhyun muttered.
Mi kicked him under the table. "Bi Zhe." Kyuhyun glared at his brother and pushed his shoulder.
"Yah! Stop fighting you, two." Siwon scolded, putting a hand on Kyuhyun's shoulder.
"Why do Baba and Appa go to the Bird House?" Ryeowook asked.
"Because they're ali~ens!" Donghae said in a smile. "They can make the birdies listen to them! They walk in and the birds just fly all over them!"
Across the table, Siwon looked at his husband, who was looking down with a blush.
The bird house was loud and spacious. The sky roof was broken into triangle shapes that disorted light to make small rainbows. Henry was mesmerized by the flying creatures swirling around him.
"Here they come!" Donghae and Mi shouted.
A flock of turtledoves dove down and surrounded the family. The other patrons gazed in awe. Siwon laughed and wrapped an arm around Geng's waist. Geng's red-face stood out against the white feathers, even more when Siwon kissed his cheek.
"Never thought this was a traditional thing." Geng whispered.
Siwon chuckled in his ear. "Don't act like you don't enjoy it." Geng giggled.
The drive home was quieter and as the sun fell, the boys fell, too. Asleep, that is. And before he fell asleep, Geng opened a book and emptied his pockets. He tok out a white feather and pressed it in a book. Above it he wrote, "The Family Zoo Visit." If he checked later, he'd see that Siwon drew a smile beside it.
