He cried beside Ddabong, laid across the smaller’s back.
Sungmin sniffled. “I shouldn’t have taken you out. I should have talked you out of it.” A sob coupled out his throat and he sniffled. “I’m so sorry, Wookie.”
Ari rubbed his snout into Ddabong’s fur.
Ryeowook shook his head even the tiniest bit and squeezed his hand. He took a deep breath and removed the respirator. Sungmin gasped, but the numbness took him once more.
Ddabong looked up at Ari.
In the raspiest voice Sungmin ever heard, he said, “Kisu…”
Ddabong barked at Ari’s side.
Sungmin nodded, leaning close and just barely placing his lips against the eternal maknae’s.
Ari pulled back, licking all over the body of his best friend.
The monitor went silent.
Ddabong laid down his head.
Ryeowook’s hand went lax.
His eyes closed.
Sungmin shook with tears, slowly walking back. His hand covered his mouth in just the tiniest attempt to quiet the sobs. He turned and ran out - ran out into the arms of Ryeowook’s lover. Yesung and him cried together - the same name on both their lips.
Ari howled for the loss of his favorite Yorkshire Terrier.
