Summary: Yesung loses Sungmin and Ryeowook in a storm
Sungmin, against himself, was jumping from end to end of the back seat, barking enough to drive his hyungs wild. Kangin caught him in jump and held him to his face. “Yah! Sungmin! I’m going to put you back in the bag and you are going to stay there. Understood?” Sungmin, his human face anyway, pouted and he barked. Kangin sighed, pulling at the scruff lightly and placing him inside the bright pink bag.
Sungmin poked his head out and barked again, nosing towards the seat in front of them. Shindong tapped Yesung on the shoulder. “How is he?”
Yesung forced a smile as he scratched Ryeowook’s ear. “He’s not coughing, but he seems tired. He’s barely moved since breakfast.” The four shared a look and Sungmin hung his head, curling up in his bag.
The boys walked into the vet. Sungmin jumped up and barked at the other sick dogs. As he was placed beside the tired Ryeowook, he went quiet and scooted close to the eternal maknae, giving him a small lick. Ryeowook yelped and gave a tired look back.
“Ah, boys, here you are.” The doctor, a gentle woman named Leehye, walked out in her angel-dogs scrubs and a gentle smile. “Are Ari and Ddabong alright?”
Leeteuk cleared his throat, cueing his mind to the two’s aliases. “Yea…they were caught in the storm and we wanted them to get a check-up.”
Leehye nodded, giving each pup a pet.
The idols gave look to their leader. “Doctor, we have to go now. Can we leave them in your care?”
“I’ll leave a message with your manager when the check-ups are done.” They all breathed a sigh of relief and bowed their thanks. Leeteuk, Kangin, and Shindong all scratched Sungmin’s neck and gave a gentle pat to Ryeowook’s head. Yesung, on the other hand, stroke Sungmin’s back and leant down to kiss Ryeowook.
As they all left, Shindong came back in and looked the doctor in the eyes. “Uhm…it may sound weird, but…before you do anything, just…like can you tell them you’re going to do something?” Shindong blushed and left the clinic.
Her assistants came, three of them taking Sungmin to another room. Leehye passed Super Junior’s piece of advice, sharing a strange look with the girls.
But they obeyed with surprising results. When they announced they would check his mouth, Sungmin opened wide. When they needed him to flip over, he gladly rolled on his back and stretched as far as his body would allow.
They packed up rather quick and cooed over Sungmin’s beautiful black coat. He suddenly tensed and his ears perked up. He barked like mad, jumped off the table, and ran down the halls. The girls screamed and chased after him. He finally stopped outside a door and his barking doubled. He scratched as the front, looking up with the epitome of the puppy-dog look. Though they knew they weren’t supposed to intrude on the check-up, they opened the door.
Leehye squealed as the dog bounded in. Ryeowook weakly lifted his head and smiled at his hyung. Sungmin jumped on the chairs and then on the table, snuggling his head against the terrier. Ryeowook yelped and nipped at the end of Sungmin’s ear.
The doctor and her assistants smiled. Sungmin laid down across his dongsaeng, making it evident he wasn’t moving at all. The checkup continued. Each time Ryeowook showed the tiniest bit of trouble, Sungmin would bark and nudge him or lick his cheek and the boy would try again.
“Okay, Ddabonggie, we’re gonna turn you over. Do you think you can do that for us?” Sungmin looked at Ryeowook, who for the first time, barked a ‘yes.’ Sungmin smiled and nosed Ryeowook’s stomach. The younger turned and stretched. The girls all applauded his efforts. Leehye placed the stethoscope against his stomach and listened. All were silent; Sungmin was afraid to talk through the link they shared.
Leehye gave a look the boys couldn’t understand. It didn’t give away bad or good news; only news. She looked at her assistants. “Go. Give them a call - we’re all done here.” The girls nodded and took the dogs in their hands.
Though the girls enticed them with colorful toys, the two dogs sat on the office table, barking a conversation back and forth. Eventually, they began to howl Miracle. The visitors of the clinic were quiet and listened to the two tone-gifted canines.
A mix of both dorms filtered into the clinic. “How are they?” Leeteuk began.
Leehye gave a half smile. “Ari’s in perfect condition. Ddabong…”
Yesung leaned close, apprehensive. “What about him?”
Leehye breathed and crossed her hands. “There’s a blockage in his lungs - probably from the storm.” The boys nodded. “Most likely, it’s just an immature version of pneumonia and if treated with medicine, it should go away. But until then, he’ll be pretty weak and tired. The best thing would be to keep him warm, make sure he’s eating and keep his fluids up. Keep him inside till he gets a bit more energy.” The idols nodded their thanks. Sungmin nudged Ryeowook before they were placed in their respective bags.
Though they were separated, Sungmin held Ryeowook tight in his arms as they slept.
