Final stage of the Jahanara pic, in progress

Jan 17, 2012 18:54

This is in a lot of ways the scariest part of doing the Jahanara pic, because I can't erase, undo, or paint over this. I'm being as careful as I can, but this is painted straight onto textured paper with gold paint; there's no fixing anything. It's all first pass, and every mistake is kept forever, unless I screw up so badly I have to restart ( Read more... )

Could you turn it 180° so bottom-right becomes top-left, or is it too hard to paint what you want to paint upside-down?

(That and some watercolor washes I've done require gravity to pull paint in a certain direction, so no turning anything until it's dry.)

I could, but... you know the thing where if you hold a picture up to a mirror you can see everything that's wrong with it? I find that it works similarly if you turn one upside down; if I turn the paper around to paint, then back over, my mistakes will be really glaring.

But it's acrylic, so it dries fast, so not really a problem :)

Ah, yeah. I hate that phenomenon (except when I use it to fix my sketches.)

Shweta, it's so beautiful. The more elaborate and colorful work catches the eye first, but this time around I'm noticing how much I love the animals all in brown.

Er... do you mean the last image? Cause that's real Mughal art, not mine :)

Oops! I was all caught up in your art, and then I skimmed down to glance at the last couple of pictures and was struck by the purty aminals. Now I'm back to staring at those incredible shiny gears...
