God,I look back at some of the early eps and see Chris just doing the stoic alien thing. And compared to the last couple of season's eps... man, has he come a long way. Not that he sucked in the beginning. I don't think that's the case at all. It's just that, partially due to Chris writing a couple of great Teal'c-centric eps, they've given the character a lot more range.
I've been reading an anthology of Stargate meta edited by PN Elrod (can't recall the title off the top of my head, especially after a few gin and tonics, but I'm posting a book report later this weekend) and a lot of my meta here parallels what a lot of writers, etc., love about Stargate. It's topical and supplies some social commentary without (usually) being too heavy handed.
So yeah, I loved this ep, even when I expected to spend my time rolling my eyes,
That would be the "Stepping Through the Stargate" anthology from BenBella books as edited by P.N. Elrod and Roxanne Conrad (aka Julie Fortune as author of "Sacrifice Moon")
I both did the "download thing" and watched the ep as aired on Sci-fi. It may not count in any way, but I still like the feeling.
While watching the DL, after Sam mentioned Teal'c getting tickets, the female part of our SG-1 viewing group started to snicker as we realized what show it was. CJ did such a great job of conveying the horror of the one lone guy in the audience..
I'll overlook the fact that alcohol on-base is verboten.
Unless the base commander at Cheyenne Mountain has a specific "no alcohol" policy, there is nothing wrong with them having alcohol in their own quarters. Soldiers who live in barracks on base can drink in their rooms, and of course, families who live in base housing can drink there as well. You just can't drink on duty or show up to work inebriated.
Also, what I absolutely loved about this episode were the comments about a show "being canceled" and about how the SGC isn't getting the support it deserves these days. I'm guessing this is the episode they were filming when the announcement was made?
I even ran back the Cam-Siler bit because I didn't know what they were talking about. Yes, nice little jabs at the network. I think this was the first full episode they filmed after finding out.
I didn't enjoy FT as much as you did, but I shall refrain from dampening your squee :). I also loved the shopping return (okay, we've seen how Sam dresses off-duty- she *so* has the shopping gene!) and Teal'c's theatre tickets at the end. Sorry, T, think of it as a learning experience

I think you've got a great point there. I don't think it would have been all that difficult to work the main AF characters into the back half of whatever season it was for SG-1

The anthology is *really* great meta. A big bunch of Stargate squee and it makes me feel smart, since all these other people I adore enjoy it too
Thanks for encouraging me to buy the book. It was worth every cent.

The Sam/Vala slash pretty much writes itself in this ep.
Of course, Vala bought some things at Victoria's Secret to wear for Daniel. ;)
