Summary: America finds an item in Japan's office while he waits.
America stared at the hourglass and watched the sand tick through, each moment seeming to stretch on forever as he waited. The old timekeeper was sitting on the desk, looking out of place among the modern gadgets and pieces of wiring that lay scattered about next to the best computer money could buy. America toyed with the little robot that crawled across the table as he waited for Japan to be ready to go. He poked the little marvel and would have to ask Japan to make him one.
He leaned back in the chair taking in the atmosphere of the office that melded an ancient culture with modernism. The chair creaked in the quiet, the silence broken only by the small fountain gurgling in the garden and the sound of that bamboo contraption that he could never remember the proper name for. He smiled, cherishing all the little details that made the other nation so unique, his grin growing wider when some of the things he had given him were tucked among the different Japanese figurines. He could also see his own poor attempt at writing in kanji sticking out from between a few books. He got up from the chair to pull it out.
“America?” The nation in question jumped a little and turned, the paper still clutched in his hand. Japan’s dark eyes spotted and snatched it back quickly, blushing slightly.
“I can’t believe you kept that thing.”
“I appreciated the effort, although your handwriting is terrible.” the Asian nation replied, still blushing slightly.
“You ready to go out?” America asked, grinning. Japan nodded and they set off into the streets of Tokyo.
