That is my mantra, the passion that is hidden behind my sweet young face. I will achieve great things, not because of the luck of my position or who I am related to. I will do these things due to my own will. That is why I fought so hard. I fought through my injury. I fought until I could no longer stand.
Because I will protect them. My lord and lady.
Because I will live up to my family name. I will honor my brother and my parents.

I remembered when Lord Kyo told my brother that he wanted me as part of his personal guard. I had seen the look on Sagami’s face and knew that he was not happy about it. It was not that he was not proud of me and honored by Lord Kyo’s request. He was worried about me, he knew Lord Kyo’s rise to power would not be simple or easy. Odds were against us, one of us was going to get hurt. It was only chance that chose me.
I look at them and mention proud words as they wash my wounds. I tell the tearful Lady Misao of my dedication to protecting her, of defeating our enemies. This wound may kill a human, but my lady forgets that we are demons. Our wars are fought all of the time beyond the senses of humanity. I will heal, and I will fight again.
