“Henry,” Sungmin excitedly said to the younger man and looped his arms around the youngest, not noticing a small disapproving look from Ryeowook who Henry was talking to. “Henry, Henry!”
Henry smiled indulgently at him and asked, “What is it, Sungmin-hyung?”
“I need to talk to you!” Sungmin said with a grin and pointed to the corner at the other end of the room, “Come, come. Let’s go over there to talk.”
“Okay,” Henry replied and nodded before turning to Ryeowook, who was pouting at Henry from being interrupted. “I’ll talk to you later, alright Ryeowook-hyung?”
“Alright,” Ryeowook said and the two did not notice the clipped tone he used as he smiled big for the two. “Come back soon!”
“I will,” Henry said with soft smile before and Ryeowook attention was soon taken away by Yesung. He then let Sungmin drag him away from the big group.
“So what is it that you want to talk about?” Henry asked once they sat down comfortably on the opposite end of the group, far enough so the rest weren’t able to eavesdrop on them without them noticing.
“So,” Sungmin said slowly before he gave a sly grin, “How was it?”
“How was what?” Henry asked, looking at the frowning Sungmin.
“The date!” Sungmin hissed and flailed his arms around, catching the attention of some of their band mates. “The date I set you up with Ryeowook!”
“Oh.”
“Yes, oh.”
Silence.
“Tell me how it was, brat!”
A slap met Henry’s head.
“Ow!” Henry rubbed the back of his head and gave Sungmin a pout. “It was alright. And it’s not a date, not when Ryeowook doesn’t know it’s once.”
“Just tell me what happened!”
Another smack met Henry’s head.
“Ow…” Henry rubbed his head again and thought he might bruise if this kept going on. “Well, it started out good. I had fun with Ryeowook-hyung and we had a good time at the amusement part but…”
“But?” Sungmin nodded and leaned in closer. So close that they were almost shoulder-to-shoulder and mere inches from each other faces, not noticing a glare directed at his way. “But what?”
“But Ryeowook-hyung got a call from Yesung-hyung in the middle, so he had to leave. I just stayed at the amusement park to play a little longer by myself before going back as well.”
“What…” Sungmin started in disbelief with wide eyes. He then narrowed his eyes in slight anger and growled lowly at the back of his throat, “What. The. Hell.”
“Sungmin-hyung?” Henry tentatively called the older man, a bit afraid of his reaction. It wasn’t a big deal at all. He just hoped he won’t get hit again.
“I made sure Yesung was busy all day that day!” Sungmin huffed and leaned back against the wall. “What was he doing, calling Ryeowook in the middle of your date?”
“It’s not a date, hyung,” Henry rolled his eyes. “We just hung out together. And Yesung-hyung needed Ryeowook-hyung. Management suddenly needed those two and Kyuhyun-hyung for K.R.Y. stuff.”
“Cheh,” Sungmin sulked and crossed his arms while Henry smiled at him and leaned down to nuzzle the older ones neck. He sideway hugs the man and felt Sungmin leaned closer. “Hyung totally didn’t have to call Ryeowook.”
“Don’t worry about it,” Henry said with a sigh. “You really didn’t have to set up these dates for me. And I’m really grateful for your help. I’m also glad I was able to spend time with Ryeowook-hyung, however brief the moments are but I’m okay without it.”
“But I want to help you two,” Sungmin whined, slipping out of Henry’s embrace to sit up to look at him. “I mean, come on. You two have to get together!”
“Why?” He asked with a thoughtful look on his face, curious. “Why do I have to do that?”
“Because you love with him,” Sungmin said with frustration. After all his attempts to get the two together, nothing was going his way. “I swear he likes you!”
Henry smiled at the older man, “No he doesn’t. He likes Yesung-hyung.”
“But-but-how can you be sure? He could always see Yesung-hyung as a friend. He might not have feelings for him. You never know.”
“Sungmin-hyung,” Henry patted his shoulders and rubbed his back soothingly. “I know because I love Ryeowook-hyung. I know that he loves Yesung-hyung and he will never have feelings for me. I’m content with just what I have.”
“How can you be?” Sungmin asked with furrowed eyebrows. “When you love him? Don’t you want him to love you back? To be with him?”
“It’s alright Sungmin-hyung,” Henry said with a quiet smile and tilted his head. “He already loves me, even if it’s not in the way I want. We would always be together because we’re family.”
“It’s not alright!” Sungmin frowned with clenched fist. “I don’t get it. I don’t get it. I don’t get why you don’t try to be with him. Even when you love him for so long.”
“Sungmin-hyung,” Henry said to him and looked directly into his eyes and gave him a soft, kind smile filled with love. Sungmin can’t help but thought about how nice it would be if someone would smile like that at him. “I’m just in love, it’s not big deal. My heart would just beat a bit faster when I am with him. I would just get a bit happier when I think of him. My day would just be better when I see him. I like this little love I have for him. I already get a lot in return even if he will never know.”
“Henry…” Sungmin trailed off, not knowing what else to say or do.
“It’s alright,” Henry said as he patted Sungmin’s knee and leaned closer. “Just a bit longer, just a bit longer and I’ll fall out of love with him.”
“You’ve been in love with him since day one, all the way back then. For more then three years. This is not just a little love you have. You can’t just fall out of love.” Sungmin looked at Henry who just smiled before looking across the room where all the other members have gathered, aside from them two. “Hasn’t it ever been hard? It’s been three years, Henry, three years.”
“Sometimes,” Henry said and looked at Ryeowook laughing with Yesung with a soft expression. His heart beats slowly for a moment. And when Ryeowook caught his eyes, the older man smiles brightly at him and waved a little. Henry returned the smile and his heart beats a bit faster. “Sometimes I let myself wish, let myself hope for something more, just a little. No more then that.”
Sungmin tugged Henry towards him, wrapping his arms around Henry’s waist and arms. The next thing Henry said was with a sad longing voice he had never heard from the boy. It broke his heart a little to hear it from him, just a little.
“Because I knew, from day one, Ryeowook-hyung would never like me.”
Sungmin tightened his hold on Henry a little and rested his head on Henry’s shoulder.
The two, so lost in their own world, so caught up with what they assumed, they never notice the glares sent their way. They never notice the frowns directed at them or the slight tightening of their fists. They never noticed because love is blind like that. Just a little.
