I'm going to Australia and New Zealand for vacation later this year! I have plane tickets, so I guess that's a real thing that's happening. And I'm probably gonna go back to India for work before November, so I'm going to rack up some miles. This time I'm at least going to try for business class ( Read more... )

I am proud of you, both for all the work you're doing, and for putting your foot down about 12 hour days. You deserve a life outside of work, and I sometimes feel like those of us without families to go home to are expected to be the people who get screwed. I totally understand that "resentful for being an expert" thing, because I'm very much in the same position regarding several things at work.

I'm also super-jealous of your Australia/New Zealand trip. I really wish I could get my ass in gear on trips other than Disney every year (Disney is easy, but even doing it, I could manage a second trip). There are so many places I want to see, but life keeps getting in the way. I'm looking forward to your pictures and stories.

We've come so far in the 20 years (jesus christ) we've known each other, and I"m so glad I've been here to see you turn into the awesome person you.

(I am apparently feeling kind of sappy. Sorry)

Yeah, I definitely feel like there's an expectation sometimes that you'll pitch in. But it's up to me to set boundaries, and I won't respond to anything on the weekend or during the evening unless I've agreed to a meeting due to time zone issues. I'm going to burn out unless I get my free time back.

Lately I've also founding myself thinking, "Ugh, why are you asking me that question?" And then realizing, "Crap. Because I'm the only one who can answer that question."

Re: Australia & New Zealand, I totally will be posting pictures along the way. And possibly flipping out about giant spiders or mean kangaroos. *g*

20 years! You've earned the right to be sappy. I'm feeling sappy because you're proud of me.
