Tell me about e-books and kindles and things!  I had no desire for one at all until I saw darcydodo 's kindle when she was visiting a few weeks ago.  I assumed that it would be nasty to read too much on screen and that it would be fairly heavy but actually neither was the case and now I have gadget lust!

I know nothing about ebook readers, but you can get out-of-copyright books for free at http://www.gutenberg.org/catalog/, which gives you many many many options.

I have a Sony one, which you are welcome to have a play with whenever we next coincide. I've got lots of out of copyright books on it for free.

Other books are about the same price as a printed one. But like you say, it's much better for travelling.

Heh, I posted a similar thing just recently, having also fallen in gadget-lust with Darcy's Kindle. You might find some of the comments that more knowledgeable people made pertinent.

Nowadays, Amazon sell the Kindle for less than the cost of manufacturing. They make all of the profit on selling the books (the Amazon store is highly integrated into the Kindle software).
