I'm guessing non-participating voters aren't supposed to vote for the team icon since it is in the participant voting section and they don't have an assigned "team" to choose an icon from.

Correct. If you're not a participant, you don't have to fill out the participant section at the top of the form, including voting for a team icon.

For favorite team icon you have to vote for your favorite from your own team. If you could comment back with that, it would be appreciated.

Does the 'favourite from your team' icon have to be different from the other 7 votes, or can I vote for the same icon twice?
