I need to rewatch. And read more. But I was like, EEE GIAC. Henriette hadn't spoken at all for ages. I sooo need to dust her off, she tends to be loads of fun.
I am somewhat obsessive about Casanova now. I tend to follow history more than the mini series, but the reason I like that one so much is while it takes huge historic liberties it does them in a way that still incorporates real people and details, and I really quite like that. (Such as Henriette, actually, she was real, just under completely different circumstances).
And oh yes. Especially when his faces are like this...
( ... )
Haha ye-es. I read at least part of her starring in his memoir, I have some idea of the differences, although they kept some of... how she was important to him? mmph, words, I do not have them right now. What I do like about the mini is that while the liberties were outrageous, RTD kept the spirit of the person very true - the details are different, but in the mini you get the feel of the... the rushed way in which he lived, the genius, the innocence, the creativeness, the love... mmm. The brilliance. In so very many ways. The imperfection. Etc., etc. Something. Everything. Ahem. I can probably talk about him for a while, too, oops.
Bahaha mmm yes. Or even slightly less campy like this...
( ... )
Yes! That's exactly why I like it. The liberties are there, but it keeps faith to the truth of the man, and it manages to portray him also as more than someone who just shagged around. The people featured were real and he had very real encounters with them. I think it captures his essence quite nicely. The spirit as you put it, is definitely intact in the show. Which is why I ♥ it!
Exactly! Yes. Well, and adding the fun/humor (and I love that) and the very good acting and mmm Venice! and the pretty people... Ahem. So, yes, I need to dust up Hen and have her bounce around a little more. Because. Understanding is ♥!
Well. Yes. I recently mentioned somewhere that Barrowman single-handedly dragged me and settled me firmly in LJ fandom. I wasn't joking. And the man's amazing.)
Yes, and I definitely think the humour is very much in the spirit of his life, as well as the more touching moments. And yes, even though they filmed it in Croatia, they showed Venice in a lovely way. The only thing that really annoys me is him having blue eyes XD
You should have seen me after I ended up being sung to by him at La Cage. I was sitting at one of the cabaret tables and was lucky enough to be in the seat where he kisses your hand. *fans self*
Yes yes yes! And haha my only explanation for the blue eyes is Peter O'Toole and the likeliness that they couldn't put contacts on him. But that's just my guess. >.>
Yeah I think that's exactly what the case was. O'Toole was the 'star' and they weren't about to ask him to do it, so DT was given them instead. At least it sets him apart a little. (Especially given his characterisation in that is practically identical to his Doctor's characterisation).
I was thinking more along the lines of, O'Toole is old enough for contacts to be a problem for his eyes. And lmfao, it was kind of the same, wasn't it? But I'm all right with that. I know for certain that DT has the range far beyond a one-kind characterization, so I enjoy what he does, period.
*flaaails* Yeah, JB is seriously among the people who make me happy.
Yeah, I tend to think the best of people until proven wrong. And, gyah, Peter O'Toole is. I had forgotten how much until he made me cry like a baby in the middle of the disaster of a movie which I won't even name; but he is, so. IDK. That said, I loved the mini and I will promptly rewatch it one of these days. Because it's worth rewatching, and they do all do a wonderful job!
