SM TOWN NYC!!!!!!!!

Oct 24, 2011 20:20

Yesterday was the SMTown concert at Madison Square Garden. Quite an adventure too! So I worked in the morning, left early from the market to go to Hoboken and drop off dinosaur cookies for Paul.

Stayed and chatted with Spencer for a bit before heading into the city. Took the PATH because the station is just one block from MSG. When I got to MSG, I texted everyone to see who was there (it was about 3) and I was just walking around and there was sparrowxx and dj_retro!!

It was good to run into them while waiting in line for merch. I'm glad they had stuff but I really, really wanted CDs, so now I'll just order them from some website. We waited in line for about an hour. celestic_blue and nickymin joined us and Kelsey (a friend of mine from my time abroad in Japan) and a friend of hers waited in line with us. We munched on some of my dinosuar cookies and then lostseouls and her sister joined our little group. FINALLY we got to counter and I think everyone left pretty happy. I got a mug and bag. I LOVE THE MUG! It's perfect for work. The bag is HUGE. I am going to ask a friend if it's possible to sew some pockets and maybe a zipper to keep the bag shut. Then I would probably use it more.

Girls kept screaming all over and there were TONS of people filming. Also, I saw tons of pink shirts. Soshified and otherwise. I have to say, no one is quite as organized as the Girls' Generation fandom. Then again, I still have my red lightstick from the JYJ concert.

dj_retro goes to school not too far from MSG, so we were going to head to this cute little Korean place for dinner, NOT NEAR KOREA WAY THOUGH. We all knew enough to avoid that area. Of course, this place is closed on Sundays! OH NO! Luckily, there was a Thai place right next door. Of course as we headed there, I ended up losing Kelsey, but she found us, and during dinner we all agreed Minho was irrelevant. Then it was about 6 so we headed back towards MSG and to my surprise EUGENE WAS IN LINE!

Eugene was someone I went to high school with and I probably haven't seen him SINCE high school. I thought we were facebook friends, but I guess not. I probably unfriended him back when he worked in Boston as a club promoter and I got his messages every weekend. He works for LG so they gave him free tickets and I assume Laura, who he was with, is his girlfriend. He still looks the same since high school.

Ran back to meet up with everyone because I had an absolute blast hanging out with them. Their sarcasm was perfect and definitely kept me sane as I waited in line after line. Plus it made for an interesting dinner conversation. I hope we get to hang out again sometime, considering we don't really live all that far apart.

Prior to the start of the concert, they kept playing the trailer for COBU which who wants to go see it with me? It looks really interesting. Since I knew LG was sponsoring the concert, they kept running LG commercials in the beginning (Pepsi too) and they also kept announcing the SMTown Global Audition and anytime it came on the screen people started screaming. They also showed an App that lets you play games to Super Junior's songs and people started chanting. The lights eventually went dim and HERE WE GO!

This commentary also comes from someone who saw SMTown LA. So a bunch of things bored me, other things were neat and some things it was like "REALLY WAS THAT NECESSARY?" (The setlist is copied and pasted from Koreaboo) I'm not going to make comments on EVERYTHING, just things I find memorable.

01. f(x) - La Cha Ta I find f(x) cute. Their songs don't really do anything for me, I do love Krystal when she sings with others (Key and Jessica later) and Sulli is like the cutesy little girl, I do love Amber she's just a bamf, but Victoria eh and Luna's voice is amazing, but as a group they're just okay. For the most part, nothing just grabs at me. BUT AMBER IS AMAZING AND PUMPS UP THE CROWD

02. Krystal &; Jessica - Tik Tok (Kesha Cover) I love the two of them together and this song is just perfect for them. Truly amazing.

03. f(x) - Chuu I wish f(x) had moved around more. They have very set choreography I guess and fewer members than SNSD and SuJu. BUT I WANT KRYSTAL'S SHOES!!! Not that I could walk in them, mind you.
04. Kangta Kangta is super awesome. It's obvious he loves what the does.

-Kangta Talk- It's obvious through the talks you can tell who was comfortable speaking English in front of a crowd of 15000 and who was SUPER nervous.

05. Kangta, Sulli & Onew When I had seen this in LA, it was Ara, I believe, who did this with Kangta. Sulli is adorable but seems weird to me because of the age gap. Onew's trip was hysterical.
-SHINee Talk- (Key: "This is crazy. We're in Madison square garden!" Key's English is pretty good and I'm glad they talked for a bit.

06. SHINee - Stand By Me I'm not a SHINee stan, but I do enjoy their performances. TAEMIN IS A FUCKING TWIG. I could probably snap him in half.OMG going through my pictures Minho keeps looking at me during the pictures. Why does the useless one look at me?
07. SHINee - Replay
08. SHINee - Get Down

09. SHINee - Juliette -Flying Jonghyun with fireworks- The flying was neat at first. By the end of the show, I was sick of it.

10. Super Junior KRY - Sorry, Sorry (R&B Remix) This was pretty neat because KRY came up through the middle stage sitting down and then slowly moved around. The three of them have amazing voices.

Key and Krystal moved too much to get really good shots of them.

11. Krystal & Key - My First Kiss (3OH!3 & Kesha) I think Krystal LOVES Kesha and I have to say, this was one of my FAVORITE performances. The song worked perfect for the two of them and they totally had fun running around the stage for it. SO MUCH FUN. Also, backup dances were in random songs, like this one.

12. Seohyun & Kyuhyun - way back into love I have a version of this song by Sunny and Sungmin and I LOVE IT but Kyuhyun and Seohyun are also amazing. They always end every duet holding hands and it's so cute. Their voices just blend well together.
13. Key, Minho, Shindong & Eunhyuk - A-yo (YG Family Song) This song was interesting because they started in the audience and made their way on to the stage. They definitely had fun and ran ALL over the stage.

14. Girls' Generation - Run Devil Run
-Girls' Generation Talk- (Girls' Generation's Jessica and Tiffany confirm the release of their U.S. Maxi Single to be released on November 29.) No surprise that Tiffany did most of the talking, she was adorable and so excited to be performing at Madison Square Garden.
15. Girls' Generation - Kissing You (Remix) I'm glad I got to see this, because I don't think they performed it in LA and this song has slowly been making it's way into my most played list.
16. Girls' Generation - Oh! I love Oh! the girls also always look happy performing this song.

17. Super Junior - Bonamana FINALLY MY FAVORITES SHOW UP! And now we are down to 8. No Siwon and obviously no Heechul so it was interesting when they performed the older songs where they have to replace Kibum, Heechul, Hankyung, Kangin, and Siwon.
-Super Junior Talk- (Introduction + Zhou Mi & Henry) Henry is so adorable. He was so shocked when he came out and everyone SCREAMED for him. I think it was good that yes, we do love you Henry.
18. Super Junior M - Perfection (Chinese Version) I am glad they performed this song in Chinese as opposed to Korean, but I do love Super Girl more and I loved the way they performed Super Girl in LA.
19. Girls' Generation - Ha Ha Ha Song The girls worked the stage on this song and ran all over the place. Rather than this song, I like Mr. Taxi more. But they ran all over and they wouldn't have done that for Mr. Taxi. That, and I like the Japanese version a million times more than the Korean version.
20. Girls' Generation - Himnae! (Way to Go) Off the Gee mini-album, this is definitely my second favorite song, and once again, I'm surprised they don't twist their ankles more often running around in those heels.
21. Super Junior - Miracle This song was slightly awkward with so many missing. Now I can't remember if it was this song or something else, but one of the song, Sungmin ran over and totok someone camera and took selcas of himself. Not to be outdone, Eeteuk HAD to do and he laid down on the stage and was taking ridiculous shots.
22. Super Junior - Dancing Out (Remix) More running commentary, I don't remember the song but Eunhyuk totally got close to Donghae (to make it look like he'd kiss him) and then turned around real quick. I don't get pairings nor do I understand why the boys go along with it.

23. BoA - Look Who's Talking I AM SO GLAD I BOUGHT BOA'S ALBUM. I love her English songs, yes, but I love her older stuff too. I understand not everything is good music (Every Heart) but Valenti? Girls on Top? Boa ia flawless.
24. BoA - I Did It For Love (Feat. Key) This performance was amazing and I love how Key towers over Boa. I am really looking forward to Boa's movie after seeing this concert.
25. Girls' Generation - Genie (Tell Me Your Wish) The girls came up through the center and this song was definitely a remix version. I don't really get the hype on the song and sort of find the dance awkward.
26. Super Junior - Sorry, Sorry FLAWLESS SUPER JUNIOR! I love them and their energy. Their songs are just amazing and yeah, this song is totally what got me hooked on kpop again and I'm really glad.
27. SHINee - Ring Ding Dong As much as SM loves Girls' Generation, they love Shinee too because Shinee was the first ones tot have the FLAMES come up every time they sang "Ring Ding Dong" pretty neat effect, but you could feel the heat and smell the smoke.
28. f(x) - Nu ABO I love the makeup move to this song. After this concert, I think I might just buy f(x)'s Hot Summer so I can have all of their hits.

29. Super Junior - Mr. Simple This song grew on me, but I still love Sorry Sorry and Bonamana more.

30. Super Junior - Don't Don (Feat. Henry and Zhoumi) AH!!!! I loved how Henry and Zhou Mi came up through the floor and they actually started to come up early before going back down, hysterical.
31. f(x) - Hot Summer I honestly had heard this song maybe twice before the concert, it's okay. I like Nu ABO and Pinocchio better.
32. Girls' Generation - Hoot Hoot is also one of those songs I'm not too impressed with and since Taeyeon's sick I'm pretty sure she lipsynched a lot of last night.
33. SHINee - Ready or Not
34. SHINee - Amigo I don't have too many comments for SHINee, oops
35. Girls' Generation - The Boys (English Version) YES ENGLISH VERSION AND OMG FLAWLESS PERFORMANCE!!! I loved this. I'm actually digging the song but I don't think it'll do any better than the Wonder Girls. I was surprised that when they sand "bring the boys out" Super Junior, SHINee, or the backup dancers didn't at least come out.
36. Onew Onew has an amazing voice and as much as I love Jonghyun they need to let Onew show it off some more. Especially so that Jonghyun's voice doesn't end up like Taeyeon's where she's sick all the time.

-Dance Battle- (Taemin,Eunhyuk, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Yoona & Luna) Man is Luna the best? SINGER AND DANCER? All of the others in the dance battle are known for their dancing, but I always pegged Luna more for her singing.
37. BoA - Eat You Up Boa you are amazing BUT MORE OLD SCHOOL SONGS
38. BoA - Copy & Paste I love the move where she squats and does it so fast. I'd topple over doing that.
-BoA Talk- ("I can't believe it's been ten years. I enjoy the stage, performance... I hope you enjoy the same feeling") It's obvious how much all of them LOVE the stage, especially Super Junior who kept going up to ttheir fans and took whatever the fans threw at them (the Brazilian flag and Canadian flag most notably)
39. BoA - Energetic
40. TVXQ - Medley (The Way U Are/Mirotic) Go figure, they flew in. Changmin needs a new stylist his hair was awful and he actually pushed it out of his face several times. I was disappointed how long it took for them to come out on stage.
41. TVXQ - Maximum Is it bad I'm more of a Tohoshinki stan and so I know all of their song in Japanese? Oh well, still amazing but Yunho's mic was awful and you could barely hear him.
42. TVXQ - Before U Go
-TVXQ Talk- Changmin is so adorable, I could totally stan him too.
43. TVXQ - Why? (Keep Your Head Down) I feel like they are definitely lost without JYJ. They're good yes, but their performances just don't have the same power.
44. f(x) - Pinocchio (Danger) When they start performing their biggest hits, it's the end.
45. SHINee - Lucifer Okay, wtf SHINee with wolverine claws of lasers? Whatever, SM, I don't like your gimmicks. My ears don't appreciate the screaming fangirls.
46. Girls' Generation - Gee Aww so cute! They went with white tees and SUPER SKINNY jeans. I love this song.
47. Super Junior - U I'm surprised Super Junior ended with "U" but it was nice to see it because I don't believe they performed it in LA, my memory is a little fuzzy.
48. TVXQ - Rising Sun Oh so sad. It was good but the mics weren't the best for them.
49. BoA - Hurricane Venus I do like this song but I feel Boa's older stuff is so much better. Or at least she should show more of it off.
50. H.O.T - Hope (By SMTOWN) OMG I always love how, no matter what, they end the show with this song and you can show how much they love each other and the stage. I was sad they only used strips of confetti instead of the hearts like at LA (I still have my heart from then!!) It was so much fun to watch them have a good time.

The concert started a little late, around 7:30 so we made it to our seats in plenty of time. It was four hours of jam packed music, with the little videos tsaying the the most precious word is "friend", SMTown will always be a friend, as their motto is "always yours, SMTown". The people sitting to the left of me were super sweet it was a Kyuhyun fan and her boyfriend. Yes, I wish I could have sat with one of my friends, or even any of the ones I had met that day, but it was still enjoyable and hopefully they will come back to NYC or maybe other kpop artists will host another concert here. It's so amazing how much Super Junior loves their fans. Girls' Generation kept waving but they're not quite as interactive. During the last song, Sunny grabbed the hearts and waved it around. Also Sungmin (I believe) took his shirt off and threw it into the audience and THEN Eunhyuk did the same thing. Oh boy. It was so pretty and I don't think words can accurately describe it. I think this is the longest entry ever haha.

I am slowly editing in pictures of mine. The videos I upload here ARE NOT MINE! But I loved these songs and wanted to share with everyone else.
