GPS seems highly variable. Toys manufactured and sold at ~ the same time develop symptoms years apart. e.g. David's TM Megatron which snapped a decade after widespread reports of the syndrome. Merely being "careful" isn't enough to account for this... GPS can cause wholesale crumbling with little/no pressure.
It's a chemical wicking effect leeching an element out of the plastic, isn't it? (Just like weeping Monster Pretender shells.) The time difference has to be environmental... temperature, sunlight, barometric pressure... It'd be fun to pick a toy-engineer's brain and find out what it is. It doesn't MATTER in the sense that it affects anything... it's more "truly trivial trivia" which is fun to know. DOES GOLD PLASTIC LAST LONGER AT SEA LEVEL? ENQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW!
