Bin Laden - justice by killing or by capture

I am more acutely aware (today) of the need for Obama to say “I” rather than “we” with respect to the operations regarding Bin Laden. This is a security issue. Lest the jihadists identify and hunt down the military involved in the operation, Obama takes responsibility. He was cognizant of the price on his head going up as he said this. Haha, no. I'm very glad that he's dead and out of the way. But I'm curious as to how controlled the situation was. Did he die of renal failure some months ago, and they raided someplace, found some guy, killed him and then declared the real Osama dead ? Or did they kill him on Fri night and didn't release it so as to not compete with the Royal Wedding ? Did they carefully construct the fact that he had to be killed and not captured ?
I'm curious about the strategies.
