I'm a stay at home mom today and it feels great. It's quiet & peaceful and already I miss my mom who's travelling this weekend. It seems that baby has taken up all the time while she's normally here and I'm wishing that I could have this quiet time with her ( Read more... )

You do seem to be naive - if people did not buy strollers, how else would they justify buying a van or an SUV after their first baby?! : D

D'oh. You're right. Buy the stroller (preferably the travel system combo with the double cup holders, snack tray for babies who like to eat on the run, shock absorbers, extra removable padding, tyre inflator, toy bar, boot cover etc.) and then buy the SUV to fit it all in for that occasional 4th of July celebration!

But wait, first I have to move out to a more serene park-like environment, where I shall gaily stroll about with baby. That is, on the days when I am not riding off-road in my SUV. And of course my new house must fit in my minivan, SUV & small 2 door sports coupe, and be tall enough for that ski rack above each vehicle...

Wow, the choices are getting more immense. I love that products can help us define who we are. Or at least who we want to be.

Uhhmm - I live in an area that does have the park like environment where i gaily stroll with my baby (and my dog), i also have a SUV and a mini van with garage space for both and yes we have ski racks on our SUV - how does that define who i am - its just what we do when we live in areas that have ski like conditions for 8 months a year, where 4WD's are best on icy roads and the garage space - yeah getting snow/ice off the top and front and back of a car in negative degree weather is fun... or even better getting snowed in and wondering where your car disapperared.

It makes sense where you live. But people in Missouri will often leave their ski racks on their car. You probably actually live the life that many fantasize about & buy stuff to support the dream.

I good a decent amount of use for my stroller for ravi - nothing like putting an infant in the stroller - right from the car - and grocery shop/shop/get my hair done/wander around the mall - all while he slept. No need to wake him up to transfer him to the shopping cart kiddie thingys (plus i know where my stroller has been and not where the shopping cart has been).
As ravi grew older and was more mobile and independent - it was either the stroller or the shopping cart.
he is a little over 3 now i havent seen the stroller in a while - but when he was an infant and i would get all my groceries and shopping done while he slept (i did not have a baby sitter or anyone to take him for a bit) the stroller was awesome.
It's very convenient to have a stroller when you have to get your shopping done as the baby sleeps - moving a sleeping kid from the car seat to the shopping cart - ha ha thats no fun... they wake up.
I have a generic graco one - not one of them fancy jogging ones.

Well..I must say that I saw one mother on roller-skates recently, with a stroller in front of her, with twins in them...and I was all admiration for her.
