Contemplating a Change

I’ve been using Live Journal to blog about books for almost four years now, and for a time, I was very happy. Live Journal is the blogging service I’ve been using for my personal blog for more than seven years, and I’m still fully satisfied with it as a personal blog. However, I’ve been growing more discontent with Live Journal as my way of ( Read more... )

It's interesting that you made this decision - I've actually been thinking of the same thing for awhile now too, and have decided to wait until I have time to make the switch.

Hope all works out for you - I will add your new blog to my reader. :)

My mind isn't entirely made up, and I just re-upped my paid membership on this account. I wish I'd waited to do that, but I didn't, so now I'm stuck here for a year. If you took the paid account thing out of the equation, I'd probably leave LJ today. I started making a few posts there today (my paper is due Wednesday, so naturally I'm doing all I can to procrastinate), and I think I like it. I'm still figuring a few things out (my sidebar is sad and lonely, and while I need to add more links, I'm not sure how to add more than just the basic links), but so far, I think I like it better.

My shootingstarr account definitely isn't going anywhere, though.

Give me a heads up when you do move, though, so I can make sure I have the link. Will you do a preliminary trial or just jump in.

I'm thinking I will probably create the WordPress blog, and move most of my back entries over there before announcing it here on LJ. But I'm not sure if I'm going to double-post everything to each one yet. Still thinking about it.

I'll let you know when I do it, but it won't be for awhile. I thought about doing it this break, but since we're going abroad, I don't think I'll have as much time to devote to it as I wanted. Maybe spring break...

I know what you mean, about the paid account. I bought a year's worth in May, so I still have a couple weeks left on mine. But if I do wait until spring break, that will only be a couple weeks before the expiration of the paid account, so it might work well to wait until then.

In retrospect, I wish I'd been a little less hasty with my announcement, but I got antsy. And I'm going to start putting my Tuesday Thinger posts there right away, because I always seem to have the worst time getting those to cooperate with LJ.

I have a feeling that, toward the end of my year-long shift, I'll be making more and more posts to WP (because I really think that's where I'm going to end up), and I won't be duplicating them here. And in some cases, I will probably just use links back and forth. It will probably get annoying, but I hate to waste twenty bucks. I kind of wish I could transfer that paid account time to shootingstarr, but I don't know if it can be done.
