The ocean's super highway is fascinating to oceanographers, nerdy children, and apparently horney dolphins. But to Sands it's just impressive on Jack's part. He wonders if the pirate understands the nature of the thing or just assumes the gulf exists to please him. It doesn't totally matter anyway. Sands is just killing time on a piece of driftwood ( Read more... )

With a good wind behind her and a decent speed cutting through the ripples and currents of the gulf, the Pearl doesn't exactly have 'brakes ( ... )

Sight is a wonderful thing. While the allure of Jack's sea quickly bored him and even the massive sight of the Pearl was only impressive when it came so close- Sands finds himself staring in awe at the small form of Jack doing a swan dive off the ship as easily as one takes a deep breath. The agent doesn't breathe at all until Jack splashes down. He's thankful for the time it'll take to swim to him so he can get back into character. For a fleeting moment he has his doubts that he can convince this man in his own world- his own pure element- that he's magical at all. Seeing Jack in that moment makes him feel stupid and clumsy ( ... )

Jack saw a man. A shining man, stranded nude and adrift. There was no way it was as simple a thing as a sea-foam-speckled corpse. When he finally pulls himself up onto the drifting fragment of would-be-ship, it's stranger and more wondrous than Jack even imagined. What he sees, is a beautiful, glittering figure with his face, if a bit younger and far paler. And then there are the shining black doll eyes.

The pirate stares in awe.
"...Well...isn't this int'resting?"
Seems to be a selkie, from what he knows of the world, but it's the wrong part of the world and wholly the wrong temperature. And then there's the resemblance. It's only Jack's own difficulty with recognizing faces that protects him from that mind blowing realization...for now.
"An' whot is it you're doing adrift in these waters, mater? 'Ardly the place for you at all, is it?"

Having an accent that doesn't exist in this time only helps. But instead of using it Sands hisses and takes a weak swipe at the pirate. Female selkies may be docile but he's supposed to be a creature that sinks ships. It's a half hearted gesture and they both know it. Sands curls back up and whines ( ... )

Wow, don't know what brought you to what you writ but it's well-done and quite appealing--caught my interest and held tight.

"He wonders if the pirate understands the nature of the thing or just assumes the gulf exists to please him." Jack's universe, Jack's decision why what exists and I can totally see him thinking exactly such.

"His PINpoint is around his neck in the form of a silver locket and that's all he's wearing other then body glitter. When one is fishing for pirates it's best to look like treasure." Now that's just about as pretty a picture as one might like on a good day! Hope that child has some sun screen on his er, nose...

"he's pretty sure that what Hell is only with less jellyfish"--funny little detail and truer words were never spoken! Made me laugh.
