A/N: I have no idea where this came from! I miss this pairing so much...
"You miss him, don't you?"
Kame looked up from brooding over his mug to meet Yuya's eyes and he nodded his head. "Hmmm."
Yuya must have known that something was off-kilter tonight - Kame wondered if it had been in his voice when he'd called at midnight to apologize for the third time for coming home so late and that it would still be a while before he could come home. The drama filming had unexpectedly gone late, and then later, and then even later than that, and their plans for an earlyish evening over dumplings and sake and the movie they had been trying to get to for about two weeks now had to be scrapped again. Yuya never complained, though, and instead of being asleep like Kame had expected, Yuya had met him at the door with a steaming cup of hot chocolate laced with chili pepper and rum, and had pushed him down onto the couch.
They had both been quiet for a while, silent with their thoughts, but not alone, and Kame was slowly warming up after stumbling home frozen and numb from being outside for so long in the brisk autumn weather. He was getting really tired of shooting these outdoor night scenes on a boat for hours and hours when all he wanted to do was curl up beside Yuya and be warm and sleep.
"So why don't you call him?" Yuya asked finally, reaching out to brush the back of his hand against Kame's cheek. Kame tilted his head sideways over the top of his updrawn knees and smiled tiredly at Yuya, who had that adorable drowsiness in his face that Kame loved because it made him feel so relaxed.
Kame shrugged. "I don't know. By the time I have the time to do it, I'm too tired to actually think of anything to say, I guess."
"I doubt he would care," Yuya said. "He's your friend."
"I know," Kame sighed. "But-"
Yuya placed a finger over Kame's lips and moved a little closer. "But nothing. Don't avoid it, or you'll make things worse. You know I'm right."
Kame was quiet for a long time, and let himself be gently pulled into the circle of Yuya's arms. Yuya took his empty mug away and pulled the blanket up over Kame.
"Are you warm enough?" Yuya asked in a tender voice. Kame rested his head against Yuya's chest and nodded.
"Yes. Thank you."
"Don't worry about tonight, Kame," Yuya said, stroking the hair back from Kame's face.
"That's what you said the last time," Kame countered. "And the time before that."
"I know," Yuya said. "And I'll keep saying it. You take things too much to heart, and I know how hard all of this is for you."
Kame pulled back to look at him. "How do you know? How? No one else seems to get it, but for some reason you do! I don't understand..."
Yuya shrugged and smiled. "Does it matter?"
"Yes, it does! What the hell are you getting out of this if you're always waiting for me?"
Yuya smiled back at Kame steadily and Kame thought: his smile is like the sun. Dawn is breaking and it is five a.m.; neither of us have slept and yet...he smiles like the sun.
"I get you," Yuya said in a matter-of-fact voice. He leaned forward and pressed a kiss to Kame's forehead.
He drew back and met Kame's bewildered eyes and said again: "I get you."
I will never understand this, Kame thought as Yuya kissed his lips in a soft, sweet and lingering kiss that tasted like cocoa and rum and pure affection. Kame gave in to it, and let everything go: Jin, work, life.
I will never understand this, he thought again. But when it feels like this, I don't care.
