Having watched the "Dead Man Walking/Day in the Death" duology (Torchwood 2x07-08), I still think this is some of the most affecting, and perhaps among the best, sci-fi TV I've ever seen -- questionable special effects and occasionally questionable writing choices aside, it's just good. At one point, I loved Torchwood utterly, and then I felt that it betrayed me again and again: the end of that season, and then "Children of Earth."

Yeah, this show, and his arc, absolutely broken my heart, in a way few shows ever have. I'm dealing with it much better on the rewatch because I know where to stop and just try to pretend nothing on the show happened after a certain point.
Rewatching, I feel like it's even more obvious that the show did a sudden hard swing from a goofy team sci-fi show to Prestige TV, and you can pinpoint the exact point when it happened. It's really annoying because it's such a fun team sci-fi show up to that point, with such good interpersonal dynamics, and then they blew it all up.
Oh, about his Expanse character - I sort of vaguely knew that he was in it, but didn't know anything about it other than I'd osmosed that he's a villain.
Can you tell me, without spoilers, if he's more like an asshole with redeeming qualities, of the Owen variety, or just flat-out evil?

I remember thinking very strongly about buying one too. I decided not to, but honestly, even though most people have left now, I feel like I got enough fun and use out of LJ that it would have been worth it if I had. And I'd still have my icons!
