Contemplating the zombie apocalypse

So I'm writing this thing (original fiction) in which there's what basically amounts to a zombie apocalypse (not precisely traditional zombies, but that's more or less what's happening) ... and I'm trying to figure out how to end it. My little intrepid group of characters are traveling through the zombie-infested wilderness in search of this one ( Read more... )

I don't like unhappy endings, or depressing stories, but I realise the genre requires some aspect of that, so I vote for an ambiguous ending. :)

Heh, yeah, my problem is that I'd kind of like to give them a happy ending after all they've been through (at least, a temporarily happy, not horribly depressing ending) but I'm having trouble figuring out a good way to do that, other than "... and then they make it to the city and they're safe".

I totally understand that! If it were me I'd end with some sort of leap of faith, without giving the result - the only way I really see to have your cake and eat it, too, unless of course you want to write an epic sequel. :)
