Purple Is The Sign
00.30 am. Sho was in his dressing room, preparing to leave after the live news broadcast. Today, Murao-san, the main caster went to Egypt for a live broadcast on demonstrations there, and Sho suddenly felt everybody was counting on him to replace the main caster for today.
It wasn't that Sho wasn’t capable of, nor he wasn’t honored to do it, but today somehow he felt tired of having to meet everybody’s expectation. Besides, his mind was occupied with something else.
Sho had changed into a pair of jeans and a V neck knit sweater. He looked down to the table where he put the tie he wore earlier. It was a purple tie lined with thin red and white stripes. His stylist, as usual, prepared a variety of ties to go with the suit, and he almost automatically chose the purple one.
That Monday was the Valentine day, so he definitely chose the purple tie, with the red line, on purpose. Sho wore purple too on someone’s birthday last year, which happened to be on Monday, and also on his own birthday, which was on Tuesday, right after he finished the news, what a nice coincidence, Sho thought.
Sho grabbed his belongings in a hurry. He smiled and took his new pencil case, a birthday present from someone so dear to him, from the table and put it inside his bag. He walked to his car parked in the parking lot and pondered for a while. Sho hadn’t mentioned anything about meeting today, so probably he wouldn’t even be home. But he must have understood the purple tie message, what if he’s waiting? Sho decided to give it a shot and drove to his place.
Sho hesitantly pressed the room number and the call button at his apartment’s entrance. Not long after, he heard a too familiar voice answered,
“Hey...great work too today”.
That voice didn’t sound surprised or annoyed, it even sounded like he was expecting him. The entrance door to the lobby buzzed open. Sho let himself inside and walked straight to the elevator.
Sho rang the bell at his door, a little bit unsure what kind of face he should be wearing. He heard footsteps behind the door, and it was opened a moment later, revealing an incredibly beautiful face with an even more beautiful pair of deep brown eyes.
Sho looked at Jun and sighed, how could Jun managed to stay beautiful after a hideous Monday?
Hi beautiful
Jun blinked, Sho looked a little bit tired but gorgeous as usual.
Hi gorgeous
“Hey”, Jun said, “come in”.
Jun was wearing a pair of jeans and a dark blue cardigan. He definitely wasn’t about to go to bed, to Sho’s relief.
Sho slipped his feet into the slippers Jun had prepared for him and walked into Jun’s comfortable and neat apartment.
Jun’s place is on the 12th floor. Sho was quite fond of Jun’s apartment because it had a nice view to Tokyo night scene, with of course, Tokyo Tower standing proudly in the middle. The breathtaking view welcomed him from over the window. It was as if all the diamonds and rubies in the world were scattered across the skyscrapers and the streets below.
“Have a seat. And help yourself with some drinks if you like. They’re in the fridge, dinner will be ready soon”, said Jun, beaming to his guest.
I knew you’d come. You wore purple tie again.
“Tough day?” asked Jun who was already busy making something in the kitchen.
“Yeah, a bit. I had to be in Murao san’s shoes today. But it was great, because I’m kind of hoping I could be the main caster someday, like him”
The toughest part was, I couldn’t get you out of my mind all day
“And quit Arashi?” Jun said, giggled.
“I’d rather die than quitting Arashi”, Sho replied, amused by the question.
Jun laughed, he enjoyed how Sho seemed to feel at ease whenever they were alone, without the spotlight that constantly putting them under scrutiny.
“Do you need a hand with that?” Sho said, offering help.
“No, it’s alright, besides, I’d rather not, you’ll ruin my masterpiece”, Jun said. He winked to Sho and licked his sauce smeared fingers, which sent Sho gasping for breath.
Aaarghhh torture….are you seducing me?
“Okay okay, whatever you say….” Sho said, still gasping for air. Like one of their VIP Room guest once said, Jun sometimes wasn’t aware of how sexy he was. Sometimes he just did things and made people fell for him without even noticing it.
Sho sat down on the sofa to calm himself.
Sho didn’t believe in reincarnation, but if they ever had previous lives, he sometimes wondered if he and Jun were lovers or even a married couple, and Jun was the girl, or the wife, and he was the man. But if it was the case, then he cursed the bizarre twists of destiny that made them both reborn as males.
“Have you eaten yet?” Jun suddenly asked from behind the kitchen’s glass wall.
“Yeah, hours ago, some catering food in the dressing room. But I’m starving already now”
“Great. Maybe I should’ve asked you before I cook, but I thought, hey you’re always starving anyway”
Jun was now preparing the dining table for two, and in a few minutes, everything was ready.
Jun made some delicious crab cream sauce pasta and salads. Sho was really totally overwhelmed.
“This is very good. Where did you learn how to make these?”
“I just looked it up on the recipe book when you came” Jun said casually as if it was something completely normal.
If you were a girl, I swear I’d marry you this very instant.
“Well, kanpai then” Sho raised his wine glass “Thank you for the delicious late late dinner”, he smiled, looking straight to Jun across the table.
I love you.
“Kanpai, happy belated Valentine…” said Jun cheerfully.
I love you too.
Sho and Jun were staring at each other intensely, as if trying to read each other’s mind.
They both already knew the plain truth that they loved each other. They fell in love since a long time ago but only able to admit it to themselves only recently. They've been through confessions and a lot more. It was as clear as the sun.
And they were now still uncertain on how they suppose to do with it. They were tired of denying, but as public figures, they have moral obligations to the society. Until now, they have been very careful not to rush into anything they’d regret later.
What are we going to do about it?
I don’t know, I’ve been asking that to myself too.
Jun looked away.
“Well, belated valentine it is”, Sho gulped down the rest of his wine.
“Don’t drink too much alcohol Sho, you’re driving”, Jun reminded him.
“Yes, mother”, Sho replied.
That’s alright, I’m spending the night here with you.
Of course I want you to stay.
“I could use a shower…” Sho suddenly felt he needed a hot shower after a long day at work.
“Yeah, sure, the towels and the sweats are in the usual place”, said Jun, pointing to a cabinet near the bathroom.
Sho grinned unconsciously,
Isn’t it weird that we’re having this conversation?
What are we? A happily married couple?
Jun couldn’t hide his giggles too.
“Man, I didn’t bring any clean underwear” Sho groaned.
Gosh, do people normally bring clean underwears to work?
“I have some spare, they’re in the same cabinet”, Jun giggled even more.
I bought them for you, dork. Geez, what am I? your grandmother?
“Thanks man, I’m taking”, said Sho as he walked to the bathroom.
Jun who was now already sitting at the couch couldn’t help but eyeing Sho’s every movement from behind a novel he pretended reading.
To think that perfect body in my bathroom, naked…argghh...torture….
Jun buried his face with the book, he tried hard not to fantasize.
Sho glanced at Jun who seemed engrossed in reading. He sighed in frustration.
Why can’t you come and join me? But…wait, that would be weird isn’t it?
Sho showered quickly and dressed in Jun’s sweat pants, t-shirt, and the new boxer.
He felt comfortable now, and sleepy too. He walked out of the bathroom, brushing his teeth.
“Zun, I bope fu don’t maim I use your nyuu toof vrush”, Sho babbled as he walked back to the livingroom.
Jun who has just finished cleaning up the table and washed the dishes glared at him.
Sho, why are you brushing teeth in my living room? I’m sooo dumping you.
Sho noticed the glare.
“Oops, horry”, said Sho, rushing back to the bathroom.
Perfectionist, I’m sooo breaking up with you.
Jun grinned
“That’s better”, he laughed.
Sho came back to the living room looking refreshed.
“I’m sure you’re tired, you can sleep in my room”, Jun gestured to his room.
Together?
“I’ll take the couch”, Jun added
The idea of sleeping with you is really tempting though.
“Thanks, but I don’t feel like sleeping yet, why don’t we watch DVD or something?”
I want to spend more time with you, sleep seems such a waste.
“We have rehearsal tomorrow, remember?” Jun reminded him
“Oh, for Music Station next week right? But it’s from 3 pm isn’t it? We still have the whole morning”, Sho argued.
Jun nodded,
“Okay, what do you want to watch?”
“Any suggestions?”
“As a matter of fact, I was watching Saigo no Yakusoku before you came”
“Ha ha ha, no kidding? Why?
“I watched it only once, besides, I like the theme song, very much”
“Sora Takaku?”
“Yeah, especially the rap part”
“You do?” Sho seemed genuinely happy.
I wrote and sang the rap part for you.
Jun smiled.
I know. We are destined to be together, aren’t we?
“Well let’s watch it then, can I switch on the kotatsu?”
Sho said as he sat on the rug and shoved his legs under the kotatsu table.
“Sure” Jun switched on the kotatsu and followed Sho sitting on the rug. He was careful enough not to sit too close to Sho though.
They watched in silence for several minutes, busy with their own thoughts.
We've been in love for so long now, don't you think it's about time for us to....
What are we doing? don't you think we're ready for the next....
"Sho, listen" Jun turned to look at Sho.
But Sho already fell asleep by then, warm and comfortable inside the kotatsu and the pillows.
Jun sighed, it seemed fate still enjoy tricking them, again.
Well, I've waited for 13 years now, a few more won't kill me.
Jun pulled Sho's blanket and watched the rest of their drama alone. He was reduced to tears when Sho sang the song for him at the end.
I forgot and dropped something back then.
The distance between us is a little bit bittersweet.
The fading words, sounds, promises.
I still want to see our future together.
The short-lived shooting star sparks
The last train is about to leave.
The many coincidences, they're also destiny.
It’s like unraveled threads that tangle again and again”

A/N: Facts: Sho often wears purple ties in Zero. He wore purple on Jun's birthday, the day before his birthday, and the Valentine day, coincidence? I don't think so, lol. And to think that their important days coincides with Monday (and Zero), that is soo awesome.
In TV Life magazine this week Jun talked about Sho: "When it's only the two of us and also when all Arashi are together, Sho always listens and follow up the conversation". I mean, it's like emphasizing that they spend the time together in private a lot, lol. Also, in Oristar magazine this week, Jun revealed that he gave pencil case to Sho as a birthday present and Sho immediately changed his old one, which he already used for 10 years or so, with the new one from Jun, lol.
I'm so happy for them, so here is a fic describing how they might spend the time together.
Also, I always thought that many of Sho's rap lyrics are written for Jun, and Sora Takaku is like, very fitting to their situation...
