LAST TIME on the Life and Times of Meadow Thayer, Meadow read in the newspaper about the marriage of Cassandra Goth and Don Lothorio. She then reminisced about seeing Bella Goth return to the Goth Home. Also, Meadow met Alon, a bartender at P.U.R.E when she was looking for Don. While rummaging in her closet she founds some boxes containing her fathers books. This led her to speak to the Oldies, who told her some interested facts about Mortimer hanging around the Thayer house. Finally, though Meadow thought that she was sick, it turned out to be something quite different. So...

It was five months later. And yes, I was in fact pregnant with Don Lothorio's child. I tried to find Don to tell him, but he seemed to be avoiding me, so I finally gave up. It didn't matter. I had other plans for how to take care of this baby.

As I stood in my home, trying to imagine how it might look with nicer furniture, my phone rang.

Meadow: Hello?

Sally: Hey, it's me!
Meadow: Sally! I didn't expect to hear from you! Where are you?
Sally: Why don't you come out front and look, silly!
Meadow: What?

I walked to the window to see what she was going on about and then, as soon as I saw her, I ran outside.

Meadow: SALLY!
Sally: It's Sally to the rescue!!!

Meadow: Oh Sally, I'm so glad you decided to move in and help me with the baby!
Sally: How could I say no to a friend?

Sally had finally turned 18, and was moving in with me to help with the baby. I pulled back and gave my friend a lookover.

Meadow: You look great, Sal! Hey, come on inside!

Sally carried her bags into the home (she wouldn't let me help) and then we sat down in the living room to catch up.

Sally: "Hey, so the place looks better!"
Meadow: "Yeah, Alon has been helping me! He pulled up the carpet and plastered all the walls!"

Sally: "Wait, ALON? That gorgeous bartender you met at P.U.R.E?"

Meadow: "Yeah, but it's not a big deal."

Sally Yeah, whatever you say, Meadow. Anyway, you know what you need? Some new furniture. Let's go shopping!
Meadow: I dunno, I don't have a lot of money...
Sally: But I do! I've been saving every penny since I was a kid and what better to spend it on then my new home?

Meadow: I know it's mostly your money Sal, but this bed isn't really my style!
Sally: But it's so funky stripey chic!
Meadow: Ummm... no? Come on, this is SimMart! I bet they have another bed we'll both like.

Meadow: See, now how about this one?
Sally: It's alright, I guess. Definitely not as funky as the other one. But if you like it, then we'll get it!

Sally: And we need a table and chairs too. What about this one?
Meadow: Now I'm starting to think you have good taste. Hey... is that-

It was Bella Goth, a woman I hadn't seen since that night 8 months ago when I'd watched from the shadows as she returned to Goth Manor. From what, I still wasn't sure.

Brushing off Sally's curious questions, I stood up and made my way over to her.

I just had to talk to her, even though I couldn't mention anything about that night.

Meadow: Hello! My name is Meadow Thayer, I moved here a little while back... You're Bella Goth, right?
Bella: Yes, that's right. It's nice to meet you, Meadow.

Meadow: I'm just starting to get to know everyone in Pleasantview, since I spent most of my childhood in the Orphanage. But I don't think I've seen you around much, have I?
Bella: Oh, no. I was.... on vacation.

I couldn't help but think to myself, 'A 15 year vacation?' But as I wasn't supposed to know any of that, I couldn't exactly mention it!

Meadow: Well it was nice meeting you, Bella. My friend and I are going to keep shopping. But if you ever need anyone to chat with, I'm always around.
Bella: Thank you, Meadow. Enjoy your shopping trip!

When we got home, I was going to call Alon to help us move the furniture in. But I didn't have to, he was already there, and had painted my entire house!

Meadow: I wasn't gone that long, Alon, how did you do this?
Alon: Well, you left the back door unlocked! I wanted to surprise you! Plus, I needed to do it while you weren't here, the paint fumes aren't good for the baby. I was just finishing up the last little touches when you walked in.
Meadow: Oh- Thank you so much, Alon!
Alon: It's nothing, Meadow. Not for you at least.

I will admit, it was hard to pay attention to the paint job when Alon was standing before me in nothing but jeans.

Meadow: Since you've already painted the house... do you think you could help move the furniture when it gets here?
Alon: Hmmm...

I was worried he'd say no, but then he broke into a grin.

Alon: Anything for you, Meadow.

He glanced behind me to Sally, who was just entering the room.

Alon: Hey Meadow, who's your friend?

As Sally stepped up beside me, I heard her whisper under her breath:

Sally: This is Alon? Why helloooo gorgeous!
Alon: What was that?
Sally: Oh, nothing.

She moved up and shook his hand.

Sally: I'm Sally, Meadow's new roomie.
Alon: Nice to meet you, Sally.

Sally: So Alon, you're cute and everything, but your hair is gross.
Alon: What?

I was about to scold Sally, when she butted back in.

Sally: But not to worry, because I can fix it!

Alon: I don't know if I can trust someone who calls my hair gross within a minute of meeting me.
Sally: Oh come on, Alon, I promise to be gentle! Look, come with me and I'll show you.

I knew exactly what Sally had in mind, and so I followed her as she led Alon into the room which used to be my room as a child.

I was pleased to see that Alon had painted the nursery pink like I'd mentioned. I didn't know what the baby was going to be, but I just had a feeling it'd be a girl. As I stared at the newly painted walls, Sally showed Alon her surprise.

Sally: TADA!
Alon: It's... a chair?
Sally: Not just any chair, silly! A styling chair!
Alon: Ohhh...
Sally: I picked it up with the money I saved. I've always loved doing people's hair and makeup and finally I realized, why not do it for a career. This is going to be the nursery once the baby is born, but Meadow let me put it here for now.

Sally: Come on, sit down! I promise to do a good job.
Alon: Alright... as long as Meadow trusts you.

I leaned against the door frame and smiled at my two friends.

Meadow: Trust her, Alon. She's great with hair, just look what she did to mine!
Alon: In that case... go for it!

Soon, Sally's scissors were out and hair was flying everywhere, so fast that I could barely keep up with what she was doing.

And then, in what seemed like only minutes, she was done. She pulled out a mirror and held it up to Alon.

Sally: Voilà!
Alon: Oh- Sally, that's amazing! My hair!

Alon got up out of the chair, brushed the hair from his chest, and smiled over at me. I think my heart may have stopped for a second. He looked... gorgeous!

Of course I had to tell him.

Meadow: Wow, Alon, you look amazing!
Alon: Really? You think so? Um...thanks!

We smiled at each other, and both of our cheeks were flushed a soft pink.

Alon stayed around to touch up the last of the paint, and then left after promising to come around tomorrow to deliver the furniture. Unfortunately, I was to miss that entirely, because just an hour before he was set to arrive, the phone rang. It was Bella Goth, and she insisted that I come over to Goth Manor immediately. All I could make out was that it was some sort of emergency... something about Mortimer asking for me, and how it might be too late if I didn't hurry...

Reluctantly, I walked over to Goth Manor as the sun set around me. As I headed up the walk towards the front steps, I noticed a car parked across the street. I moved a few steps closer, trying to make out who it was...

But I could see was the backs of two men, who turned their heads away from me as if to hide their faces. It was a bit creepy, and so I immediately looked away and hurried towards the steps.

Just as I reached the top of the steps (climbing stairs is slow business when you're 8 months pregnant!), the door flew open and Bella rushed out.

Bella: Meadow, thank God you're here!

She didn't even seem to notice the car across the street; she was so stressed she couldn't stop wringing her hands and glancing back towards the stairs.

Meadow: Bella, what is it. Is he sick?
Bella: No... he isn't sick... just come with me, Meadow, quick!

When I entered the room and saw Mortimer lying in bed, I was shocked.

He was covered in disgusting bruises, and he was all bloody like he had been in a fight.

Bella: I found him on the street and I barely managed to get him up here. I told him he needed to go to the hospital, but he insisted I call you instead!

I just couldn't stop staring at all the blood and bruises on his face. And why had Mortimer asked for me of all people?

Meadow: Mr. Goth? W-what did you want from m-me?

He opened his mouth to speak, gasping for breath between nearly every word.

Mortimer: There's ... something ... I need .... to t-t-tell... you....

He told me a story that he'd been keeping inside for 15 long years. As he spoke, I could see it in my mind.

Mortimer: I don't ... have ... much longer ... meadow ... you need ... to know .... this.

He told me that he was angry with my father; more angry than he'd ever been in his life. He wouldn't tell me why; just sighed and grasped Bella's hand in his own when I asked.

He told me that he had been walking by my parent's house and had seen a horrible experiment, something he couldn't bear to repeat.

He went back that night, and walked right in the house; they hadn't even turned on the alarm system!

He said he'd checked all the rooms. My parent's were sound asleep.

And so was I. Just as he'd planned.

He wasn't even sure what he wanted to do. He told me he stood in the kitchen for what felt like forever; fuming over how nicely kept the house was when my father was such an evil person.

He was blinded by anger and didn't even think about my mom or me. Finally, he knew what he wanted to do.

He grabbed a screwdriver from my father's tool box under the kitchen sink and loosened some things in the oven; just enough to start a small fire the next time someone used it. Then, he took some cans of gasoline and circled the outside of the house, hoping to fuel the fire into a blazing inferno.

Mortimer: And you... know what... h-happened next... Luckily the f-f-firefighter... got there.... before the fire could... s-spread too far and... you were spared.
Meadow: Luckily? LUCKILY? You killed my parents, you bastard, how lucky is that?
Mortimer: M-M-Meadow ... I-

Suddenly, his voice cut off. I heard gasps and choking noises behind me, and turned around to see that old bastard clutching his throat and gasping for air.

Bella hurried forward towards him as he fell to his knees, reaching for her.

Bella: Mortimer, please, lay down!
Mortimer: B-bel.... Bella.... So ... sor-

Tears streaming down her face, Bella turned to me and pleaded.

Bella: Please, Meadow! Call 911, PLEASE!

I turned and started to waddle away towards the phones. Maybe I was going slower than I could have- who knows? The man did kill my family. But either way, it didn't matter. By the time I even got to the phone, it was too late.

Mortimer Goth was dead.

There was nothing more I could do, and as the ambulance and police arrived, I fled with barely a backwards glance. I did notice one thing though... the car that had been parked outside when I arrived was gone.

After what Mortimer had told me about "horrible experiments" I was more interested than ever in my father's journals. A few days later, in an effort to not think about what Mortimer had told me, I brought the journals to my boss, Doctor Hamalamba.

Meadow: My father was a Scientist, and I found these journals of his. Only I can't make any sense of them... could you help me?
Dr. Hamalamba: Yes, sure I can help you Meadow. Just leave the book here with me.

I handed him the book and we made plans for me to come back in a few days to pick it up.

But when I came back a few days later, something was horribly wrong... He didn't answer when i knocked on his door, so I just went inside. A puddle of some strange red liquid pooled out around the desk. I hurried around the desk to see what it was, and-

I was met with a ghastly sight. The body of Dr. Hamalamba lay spread out on the floor, surrounded by his own blood. I immediately dropped down and checked his pulse, but I was too late.

Why was all of this happening around me? What was going ON in this town?

The Doctor's funeral was a few days later. As they lowered the casket into the ground and the mourner's dissembled, I wandered down the path to a section I always knew the location of, but that I'd put of visiting for 15 years.

I gazed down at the tombstone, reading the description over and over. "Laura and Alan Thayer: Forever Together".

I burst into tears as everything that had happened in the last few weeks came weighing down on me. And then, insight dawned on me. I needed to find out just what was going on in Pleasantview. If no one else was willing to do it, I would.

The next day at work, I sat down at my computer desk and started up a folder of case files.

Every person that I thought was important received their own folder. As it was, I didn't have much. But it was a start.

Later that day, after work, I met up with Sally at the cafe and told her about what I'd started. She was enthused and fully supported my plan.

Sally: I'm there whenever you need me, babe! Even if it means taking the train to some tiny little mountain town to find the hermit who wandered through Pleasantview 15 years ago and stumbled upon an important clue!
Meadow: Sally, you're nuts.

Sally was a goof, but I knew she was just trying to keep my mind off everything that had happened. Unfortunately, I was about to have one more thing added to that mess.

Having finished our drinks, we stood up to leave. But as we headed towards the door, we were stopped in our tracks by the sight of the woman coming through the door. Wasn't that... Nina Caliente? Don's ex-girlfriend?

As Nina spotted me, she stopped short and her eyes widened in surprise. But before any of us could speak, the bathroom door opened and we turned to find yet another surprise. It was Cassandra Goth, wife of Don...

The room was completely silent. This... couldn't be happening!

Dun dun duuuuuun.
