GAH! I'm with you on the embarrassment. Do we have to repeat some version of this with every generation?

As someone who has spent far too much time and too many headaches dealing with red tape to live abroad, it pisses me off to think of the free ride so many illegal immigrants are being given. Believe me, if I could live in Japan tax free whilst receiving access to free social services and health care I WOULD.

OTOH, it's dishonest to pretend that this is an all or nothing game There's no reason people shouldn't be allowed to immigrate to this country. That's how it was founded and built up. What the politicians need to do is grow balls, refuse to bow to their corporate masters, and reinstitute a workable, managed system for allowing people to immigrate.
