But if you try sometimes...

Overheard in passing at the subway station this morning, two young men in Bay St. suits:

“Well, for the Republicans he was the best candidate, anyway…”

Ave aqua vale, John McCain; in your time, you would’ve probably made a splendid President. It’s not really your fault that your time has long passed.

Although, the Palin thing…and all the other ( Read more... )

Where is the Bob & Ray Biography? anonymous July 1 2009, 21:02:02 UTC
Hello. I've been scanning through your journal and enjoying it. I was the one who commented on your Pop Matters B&R article. I thought I'd leap in and agree wholeheartedly with "Where the heck is the biography of Bob & Ray?" Good Gracious, they have so much material. They covered so much. Let's ask Bob where it all came from before it's too late. Let's find out what their lives were like producing all this stuff. Maybe you should write it?

On the Bob & Ray On a Platter album, they do a "Ladies Grab Your Seats" bit that ends with Ray saying "Damn the pop-up toaster!". I almost rolled off my chair. "Damn..." C'mon guys, why work blue?

I've enjoyed your journal. In some form of repayment, I write for www.bleedingskull.com. It looks like it's just reviews of strange movies but there's a bit more in there.

Have a nice day.

Well, hello! And thank you so much for the kind words, both here and on the article. I have checked out your website, and given the writing quality evident therein am now even more appreciative of the compliment paid. :)

Heh. I'd love to, I really would...and who knows, maybe I'll figure out a way to at least expand the article. You're absolutely right, the diversity of their material alone warrants a closer look. *glances thoughtfully at Facebook B&R group*

I'm glad you enjoyed the site. We try to bring a bit of extra-special verve to that kind of writing. Under the links, Turbot Town Stories is my stuff, too. Writing is a good time, I find.

I don't think I mentioned this but if you like Bob & Ray (well, I know you do) you might try Vic & Sade. It's low-key and a bit odd and it sounds like it comes from an alien world but it's quite wonderful. I'd tell you about it but Wikipedia does a more thorough job. If you come across an episode, give a try. But, keep in mind, that one episode might not completely grab you. It took me about six or seven before I though "I get it!". (Although, the exclamation point might be a little strong.) It's probably my favorite radio show.

Oh, congrats on the new glasses. I need a new pair myself.

To an excellent weekend,
Dan B

Writing is a good time, I find.

Yep. Which is of course the best reason to do it. :) Speaking of which: Turbot Town Stories...I have only read this far:

The way you people work down there makes an owner realize that sunlight is not as important as people believe. Fluorescent lights work just as well. And, they stay on all the time. Don't they?

...and bang, it's already bookmarked. I love this kind of thing even more than I love snarky R.O.T.O.R reviews (do you know, until I saw yours, I sincerely thought Jabootu.com had made the whole thing up?)

I also looked up Vic & Sade on the Wiki...and boy, you were not kidding about the thorough job. Clearly, anything this beloved, I have to give a try.

Meanwhile, thanks again for reading, and for sharing. As I've said elsewhere, one of the nicest things about being a B&R fan is the other fans I've met. :)

Take care,
Shoe
