...So I was kinda thinking, isn't it really annoying how Shinji hogs all the restaurants in Discedo? He's got a monopoly on them, and it's not fair. So I was kinda wondering, maybe we - or, I guess, me - should start a new restaurant. Of course, I won't quit any of my other jobs, so it'd have to be a morning restaurant, like breakfasts and things. ( Read more... )

It's probably because he's a mafia king.

Yeah, be careful. He might try to take over your business and have you offed.

It's okay. I can blackmail him, if he tries anything.

You can't argue it.

There's a restaurant chain here? How does it run in a place like this?

That's a pretty good question. Basically, Shinji forces people to give him supplies, and then he cooks with them.

Or more seriously, people here need to eat, but not everyone can cook well, so a restaurant was probably inevitable.

Oh. In that case, I guess it makes sense. I should come try some food sometime soon!

You should, miss!

There's the Northern Lights, which is Shinji's - that is, Shinjiro's - restaurant. It's also a bar, so be wary of the delinquents. I cook there. But it's not free. If you want free, the high school has a cafeteria with lots of free cooking - there's the soup kitchen, where I also work, and a new cooking club.

It's all really good.

... You're joking right?

Anyway, why learn English? It's just work you don't need to do.

Joking about what?

And I think I do need to. A lot of people here speak it, and it would be useful. At the least, I could talk to Miss Nani without resorting to hand gestures.

Who would want to talk like you on a regular basis?

It's a hard language, it takes years of study.

Oy. Kansai's the best part of Japan, so who wouldn't want to talk like me?

I know. But I know a little already, so I want to keep trying.

A new restaurant, huh? That could be cool.

Wow, you think so?

Cooking is really my only marketable skill, so the idea came to me on a whim. I don't know how serious I am, though.

What kind of things can you cook?

I'm really bad at that sort of thing, but I always meant to learn eventually.

Absolutely anything. Although honestly my weakness is sweets and pastries. Although I make really good cream puffs, I'm weak at other such things.

I used to steal from the food stores, so the monks taught me to cook as punishment. To everyone's surprise, I liked it. It's really not that hard, once you know the basics. I can teach you, if you're interested.
