chemistry for dummies

Hello, science and non-science folks!

I have a character who's a sciency-type of guy.  To calm himself down when he's nervous, he patterns the periodic table in his own ways or plays other games with them.

So, I need y'all to take a test.

Can you figure out why these elements are being listed in their particular orders?

He's trying to be the next Frankenstein, but is starting small by trying to bring raisins back to life as grapes by dunking them in water with a brass spoon?

I have no idea. I thought maybe it was the first letters spelling something but "Bas" isn't a word. Maybe its their symbol spelling something... I don't know the symbols though.

(The symbols spell something.)

1. Brass
2. water
3. spoon
4. raisin

man, do i feel like a loozer. i was trying to figure out the periodic trends in those groups instead of going for the superficial. *sigh*
