I go with you on this one; the guy was literally begging to taste his own medicine. I cannot think of any other author who'd campaign to put a German translator of his OWN book to fire for allegedly doing a bad job....
A side step : The word "pact" interesting meanings : http://nouvellelanguefrancaise.hautetfort.com/archive/2012/11/06/pacte.html "Pacts, "pactes" and "Pakts" are being "signed" again and again in Europe, but without a single citizen being involved - so just one side. As for the other side, that leaves only one possibility, which could have seemed very evil to Bodin.
