When my dad turned to me last night and demanded to know Obama's immigration policies, I was dismayed to realize I didn't exactly know the answer. So, in the interest of being able to shoot Obama facts at him (and any other Obama detractors I come across) I spent a couple of hours tonight reading up on the issues.

Eventually I stumbled upon this Read more... )

People are so narrow minded. Just think, the marriage I am in was illegal around sixty years ago (interracial). I mean if you think about, Most married couples don't even have that much sex and all of this debate is rooted in one act, one tiny portion of a committed relationship. I agree in this age of quickie marriages and quickie divorces, a committed adult consensual relationship should be praised not diminished by who the two participants are. So yeah, I'm also terrified of what a McCain/Palin ticket would bring. Republicans still believe that the world is going to hell because women go to work. We need to all go out and vote. Don't stay home people. NO MATTER WHAT. VOTE, VOTE, VOTE and help any people who can't get to voting booths get there as well. :)

Let's hope that 60 years from now the issue of gay marriage is as up for debate as the issue of interracial marriage is today. 8)

Or even LESS up for debate, because sadly even today interracial marriage isn't as accepted as it should be. X_X

HERE HERE!! When I see McCain posters in people's lawns, I wanna knock on their door and smack them in the face. "WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU! DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE SUPPORTING!?! CAN YOU READ?!"

The "sanctity" of marriage he says. OK! Yeah, The Bachelor is totally acceptable. Right. The gays will totally be the downfall of marriage. Uh huh.

You know what....men already have a hard time wanting to get married. If you can find TWO men wanting to get married to EACH OTHER, that's a fucking miracle. So let them get married dammit! They'll probably stay together longer than the bunch of retards out there getting married at 18 because they got knocked up at prom, only to get divorced a year later.

I'll be the first to admit that I haven't been paying that much attention to politics as of late. I just... don't know, actually. I really do care what happens in our country, I do... but it just doesn't snag me the way it does others. My sister is really into it, so I hear a lot from her--which makes me stand more on Obama's side.<3

I just... people love. Does it really matter who, so long as they're willing to care for and spend the rest of their lives with them? When we have all these people just getting married for sex or money--what about those who are willing to stick together, even when it's not 'right?' Ugh, sanctity of marriage, my ass. And... that list is... wow.

Your dedication is inspiring, BB<333

DON'T MIND ME IF I DON'T MAKE SENSE. I AM V TIRED.

if there is such a thing as sanctity in this age of Vegas weddings and quickie divorces,

I worry about this myself. I have a very firm desire to one day, in ten years or so, get married and stay married for the remainder. But this isn't even a climate where that sort of commitment is viewed as 'normal' (whatever the fuck 'normal' constitutes). I know several men who are looked down on for DECIDING NOT TO CHEAT ON THEIR WIVES.

I just...HOW can people view marriages like JOHN MCCAIN'S as 'sacred'?? He divorced his first wife for a slew of terrible, bullshit, half-arsed reasons, was a complete dick to her throughout the process, and he thinks that he has more of a right to determine what constitutes 'sanctity' than (for example) Fatima-and-Aeesha-whose-wedding-I'm-attending-this-month?

And not wanting to protect people from being fired and lynched for NO REASON?

WHAT THE FUCK, AMERICA.

It'll be all right. Obama is going to win, he's going to carry the South-West and the East, McCain is going to be out of the Senate forever in two years, and people will stop being jerks about gay people and maybe, just maybe, some day, we can start actually respecting marriage.

As of right now statisticians have Obama's odds of winning at 90.5%, but a month is an eternity in politics, and McCain's HATEMOB is getting more and more riled by the day. (A man wearing an Obama shirt was shot three times in England. A racist threatened to shoot people in the voter registration office if they didn't give him a card so he could "keep the n***** out of office.") I doubt McCain/Palin's disgusting fear-mongering will take them far enough to win, but I don't want to let myself think of anything as certain until the votes are counted.
