I felt very much the same way when the World Trade Center collapsed because New York City was a place I'd never been before but which I loved from afar. I didn't have a really serious job I loved at the time (phone reservations, remember?) and I wanted to help make things better.
I'm not specifically Christian anymore, but I know I'm thinking all the good thoughts I can about the people of Japan. And even though I know they're not asking for blood donations, I know that perhaps a donation to Doctors Without Borders would be of some real direct help. So that's what I'm going to do.
