I'm not sure how that happened. Reading around it seems it was a savvy 11th-hour marketing campaign, as well as a bit of "Brokeback backlash" due to all of the gay-themed movies nominated this year (Brokeback, Capote, Transamerica, the Moon and the Sun, etc

Darling, I think your expectations are a little too high. We are talking about the same academy that thought Titain was God's gift to the world.

True, but it's also the same academy that gave Hilary Swank an Oscar for "Boys Don't Cry."

And honestly, Titanic should have won, just because it was a huge mega-hit epic, that acually did have *some* merit. The academy eats that shit up.
