SNOW DAY

Feb 20, 2011 22:48

Most everyone can remember those few and far between days of gloriousness known as the elusive "snow day". Some had them more than others (I think I tend to see southern states having snow days more than northern states where there's actual, you know, snowing), but that same feeling of uninhibited freedom was shared.

Then, when you hit adulthood and ( Read more... )

I suspect that part of this is the states' ability to handle snow. In Illinois, we have an army of plows who patrol the streets, so we get a clean slate every couple of hours. But when I lived in Tucson, AZ, they got a single inch of snow. That single inch made Tucson's many hills and bridges too slippery to travel, and the whole town was shut down.

Ooh, interesting observation about snow's effect with different terrains, I really hadn't ever thought of that. I just remember one time it started snowing in Mississippi or so and entire cities flipped out and shut down. Here at least it takes a good 15'' to bring everything to its knees, though I wish they plowed more frequently than when it only snows a little bit.

And speaking of plows, I hate that when they plow our side street they pretty much just pack the driveway with everything that was in the street. Kinda defeats the purpose of a clear street if the cars can't even get out to use it. =/

I live in a region of California where a light dusting of snow would be seen as a harbinger of the apocalypse, so I can't really share any snow day stories, but--I think this would be an opportune time for ferret pictures.

SORRY I JUST NEED SOME ADORABLE IN MY LIFE RIGHT NOW.

THIS IS A GREAT IDEA AND GIVES ME TIME TO CHARGE THE BATTERY :D

Though apparently a little bit ago the bf saw Blythe grooming Morgan, which is kinda funny if you know that Morgan has been exhibiting mating behavior nearly exclusively with Blythe making her do this odd squeal/scream thing, but anyhoo...

FERBIE PICS SOON :D

Ah, the good old snow day - when we had snowmaggedon last year I spent most of my unexpected time off of work playing WoW and reading fic - so, you know, I was productive! ;)

Hope you get to have some fun past the shoveling.

I've been WoW-free for about, oh, seven or nine months now, but I am sorely tempted to upgrade my account with the CE Cataclysm I bought my bf for his birthday, even though I also bought him a SE too so he could play on release and the plan was for him to upgrade when the CE arrived and I would get the new key for the SE, but oh well. I was even more tempted by the seahorse mounts, but it's probably a good thing I don't have an active account.

Fanfic, on the other hand, ffff, I have been addicted since last August when Inception fandom exploded my mind with awesome and then was followed up with a 1-2 hit from Tron and Sherlock, but I ain't mad xD

Lol the joys of live in the north... at my college in bumblefuck, PA, it would have to snow at least 16 inches for them to close. Not many snow days, needless to say...

It was a lot better than real life, where my office NEVER CLOSES EVER, so I have to shovel my car out and drag my ass to work even if it does snow D:

Seriously! If it weren't for me not having to work today, I don't know how I'd get around town. I think even the buses are delayed like whoa, so it's probably more like an enforced snow day.

But even that isn't stopping my bf from trying to clear the 18 or so inches in his Sebring to get to work, he won't just relax and let the snow day happen (though I jest in that, he does kinda really need to get to work D: )
