1. July 21, 2008

“He wears this kind of underwear,” she says holding up one of his boxers.

She only takes note before she neatly folds the garment and places it on top of his other clothes that have been washed and dried. She gathers the rest of the stacked clothes on the coffee table and goes to his room. She places them on his made bed. On her way out, she picks up the pants that hung on the chair and checks its pockets; there’s a white handkerchief inside and a thousand yen note that she places on his table. The pants are brought to the laundry room and placed inside the hamper.

There is a laminated chart on the fridge, held by a magnet shaped like a mini-wine bottle. She looks closely at it and tried to figure out what she should cook for tonight’s dinner. Having an idea of what he does for a living, he should eat healthy food at home, at least.

A balanced meal complete with soup and a serving of vegetables is on the dining table waiting for him.

She goes back to the living room to read one of the books placed on his bookshelf; the book was mainly about Japan’s economy.

At 9, she turns away from the book and looks up when he enters the living room.

He barely looks at her but she says, “Okaeri.”

He lets out a sigh of exhaustion and passes by without responding.

2. July 27, 2008

“Tadaima,” says Sho to no one in particular when he opens the door and comes in.

From where he was standing, he could see that the lights in the living room are already out.

She must already be sleeping, he thinks. He enters the living area and finds her already sleeping on the sofa bed. He picks up the book she’s been reading and puts it back on the shelf.

He takes a quick shower and wears one of the shirts and boxer shorts that were neatly placed on his bed. He feels his stomach grumble so he heads to the kitchen and eats the food placed on his dining table. After eating, he places his used utensils on the sink and goes back straight to his bedroom and browses through some papers regarding Arashi’s shows.

In the morning, he gets up, bathes, and arrives at the kitchen to eat the prepared breakfast on the table. This time, he washes his dishes before he heads to the living area.

Sho sits at one end of the sofa, watching TV while she sits on the other end, busy answering that day’s SuDoKu challenge.

3. July 22, 2008

She changed into the clothes that were brought to her by her so-called assistant and luckily made her way out of the hospital without anyone noticing. It’s the first time that she feels at ease since the day she woke up.

Now, the thing is, she didn’t know where to go.

There is an Okaasan and Otousan but her instincts told her that they were not the right people to come to right now.

There is a phone she retrieves from the bag’s side pockets and in the phonebook, she finds a list of names she had no memory of. She slumps onto a nearby bench and bows her head down. There’s the urge of cracking her on skull open just so that she remembers something.. someone.

A bunch of kids pass by and they are singing a nursery song; a song that she remembers, a song that she knows.

She opens the phone again and goes to the list of names. She places her hand on the scroll button, closes her eyes, sings, and presses down on the button. At the end of the song, she opens her eyes to see where the scroll function took her.

The name read Sakurai.

Who is Sakurai? Is this person a he or a she? What was her relationship with this person?

“Hello?” a man answered. “Na-- Mayuko-san?”

She looked at the tag on her wrist. Yup, that’s her name.

“Sakurai-san? Is it alright if you meet me at the park?”

“Me? Meet you.. at the park?”

4. July 22, 2008

He agreed to let her stay only because he felt pity for her. That’s all.

Sho convinced himself that he was just being a human being helping another human being.

She was thankful enough to accept his conditions: 1. She will not disturb him in any way/she will mind her own business 2. She will do household chores (that being considered as her payment for living under his roof) 3. She will leave once she remembers something 4. If she causes him trouble, he will call her parents 5. She will not feel hurt if he ignores her because he does not want and he never ever wanted her there in the first place.

*

5. August 5, 2008

There happens to be a lot of giggling coming from the girl in his bedroom.

Namie tries to cover her head with a pillow but it was useless.

Sakurai came home earlier than usual with a girl-a family friend’s daughter, he said. He introduced Namie as his cousin and then she was completely ignored by the snotty lady he brought home. It was like she was deaf and the girl would say things not too decent for her to hear.

She gets up and heads to the kitchen where the sound is almost inaudible. She makes a cup of coffee, sits by the counter, and wonders what time Sakurai will send the girl home.

*

6. August 5, 2008

He’s woken up the by sunlight peeking through his curtains. There is no one beside him on his bed. The girl he brought home last night must have left.

He puts on sweatpants and wears a tank top before he goes to the kitchen to have coffee.

Namie, who looked like she just woke up, bumps into him when he enters the kitchen. She looks at him through one open eye and doesn’t say anything; she scratches her head and continues to walk.

When she’s out of earshot, Sho mutters, “I’m sorry.”

*

7. August 6, 2008

“Tadaima.”

“Okaeri.”

They both say at the same time without the intentions of actually saying the said words to the other.

Namie continues to fold his clothes and Sho goes straight for his bedroom. He comes out after his shower and is ready to have dinner.

When he takes his seat at the dining table, he notices that the meal was more than the usual serving. He sighs and rubs his hands on his lap before he goes to the living room to ask Namie.

“You haven’t eaten yet.”

“I wasn’t very hungry,” she answers whilst she continued flipping through the channels on cable.

Sho scratches his forehead.

“Do you want to join me?”

Namie looks up at him and nods slowly. “Sure,” she utters and drops the remote on the couch. She follows Sho to the kitchen and gets her own bowl and spoon before she takes the seat right across him. She gets her rice and pours onto it the soup from the shrimp dish she cooked.

She brings the spoon to her mouth but her hand pauses in mid-air. Namie puts down the spoon.

“Is there something wrong?” Sho asks. There is a pang of worry in his face.

“I think I remembered being allergic to shrimp.”

“Oh..”

*

8. August 8, 2008

“Okaeri,” Namie quietly says when he comes in. She’s reading another one of his books and looked like she’s ready to sleep. The sofa bed is already unfolded and she’s already warm and cozy under a thick blanket.

Sho walks to the door of his bedroom. He reaches for the handle, pauses, and replies in an equally quiet manner, “Tadaima.” Before he pulls down the handle, he turns. “Tomorrow..”

Namie looks up from the book. “Huh?”

Sho let’s go of the door and takes a few steps towards the sofa.

“I was wondering.. what do you want for tomorrow?”

Namie’s eyes move left and right as if Sho was being suspicious. “Why? What’s up with tomorrow? I already planned on what to cook.”

“I just thought--- Do you think you like sweets?”

Namie shakes her head, saying, “No idea.”

“Oh. Okay.” He takes a step back. “Goodnight.”

“Aren’t you going to eat?” Namie asks but even SHo gets to reply, she adds, “I put your food in the microwave, in case you get hungry.”

“Alright. Thanks.”

“Sure,” Namie replies nonchalantly. She goes back to reading the book.

*

9. August 9, 2008

“Would you like us to write a greeting on the cake?” the shop assistant asks him.

“But she doesn’t remember…” Sho says silently to himself. “No, thanks. That’s fine as it is.”

He has decided to go home early that day. Before dinner and he’s already at his home’s doorstep.

“Tadaima,” he greets, making sure it was audible. Sho doesn’t get a reply.

He steps into the living room and meets eyes with Namie. She doesn’t say ”Okaeri” but she kindly smiles at him.

Sho clears his throat and continues to walk until he is standing beside the sofa. He shows her a white box.

“I thought I’d buy this on my way home. If you want to eat, I’ll just put it in the fridge.”

“Okay.”

Sho does as he said and leaves the cake in the fridge. He goes in his bedroom and leans against the door that is shut behind him.

“Happy birthday, Namie..”

*

10. August 12, 2008

“Good morning. Oh. You’re… going somewhere?” Sho asks when he notices that Namie isn’t in her usual house clothes.

Namie looks a bit surprised. It’s the first time that Sho asked her about what she’s doing (well, in this case, where she’s going).

“Yeah. I figured that going outside might help me remember something,” she explains to him.

“Okay. Don’t.. don’t go far. You might get lost.”

Namie smiles, nods, and heads to the door.

*

11. August 13, 2008

Like any better night, the two of them are in the living room, each sitting on one end of the couch; one is watching TV while the other one is reading a book.

Namie closes the book and sets it down on the coffee table. She brings up her knees to her chest and tries to absorb what was being said on the television screen. And then, she clears her throat.

“Sakurai-san, I have a question to ask. I hope it’s okay.”

Sho glances at her before he lowers down the volume of the TV.

“W-what is it?”

“How do I know you? I mean, how are we related? Are we friends?”

“Kind of,” Sho answers with a slow nod.

“How long have I known you?”

“Pretty long..”

“Are we in good terms?”

“Kind of..”

Namie smiles sheepishly. “I’m sorry. I couldn’t remember anything of anyone so I thought I’d ask the closest person I have right now.”

“It’s alright,” Sho tells her. He gets up and walks towards his bedroom door. He turns to her before he opens his door. “You never called me ‘Sakurai’. Only ‘Sho’.”

“Oh. Sho-kun?”

Sho smiles and shakes his head. “I was fine with Sho-chan.”

“Sho-chan?”

“Yeah. Goodnight.”

“Goodnight.”

*

12. August 14, 2008

He is going to be late and he couldn’t find his phone in his bedroom. He rushes into the living room where Namie was busy cleaning.

“Namie? Namie, have you seen my phone?”

“Wha--?”

“Na-mie..”

They stare at each other for a few moments before Namie speaks.

“I.. didn’t see your phone.”

“Okay. Well.. I gotta go. I’ll just,” he pauses to take piece of paper and pen to write on. “I’ll just leave you with this number. It’s a spare phone my manager holds for me. Call this in case something comes up. Ittekimasu.”

“Itterashai.”

*

13. August 15, 2008

Don’t cook. I’ll bring home something.

At this time, Namie should be cooking for dinner but since Sakurai texted her earlier; now, she preoccupies herself by sorting out their laundry for the next day.

“I wonder what food Sho-chan will bring-“ she pauses, “Ah. I said Sho-chan.”

She leaves the laundry room and checks to see if everything in the living room is in the right place. She picks up the book that Sakurai borrowed for her. He said that maybe Namie would find it interesting to read. It was a book on bloodtypes.

“Tadaima.”

Namie walks to the entryway. “Okaeri,” she greets Sho as he puts on his slippers.

Realizing how weird it felt that she went out of her way to greet Sho in the entryway, Namie doesn’t wait for Sho and goes ahead into the kitchen herself.

“Aiba-chan’s mother cooked this for me.” Sakurai puts down two paperbags; one is white while the other is yellow. “I’ll be back so we can eat. You haven’t eaten yet, right?”

Namie nods. She proceeds to get the contents of the paperbags when Sakurai goes to his bedroom.

She first opens the white bag. She takes out the Tupperware and opens it.

“Eh. This is shrimp.” She pouts.

-

“What are you doing?”

Sakurai comes back to the kitchen and finds Namie preparing to cook noodles.

The girl is pouting when she turns and shows him the shrimps.

He laughs lightly and reaches for the yellow bag.

“I knew it was shrimp that’s why I bought this for you.” He takes out what he bought from the restaurant earlier. “This is shrimp-free. Let’s eat?”

*

14. August 17, 2008

She wakes up surprised by the bouquet entirely made up of purple lilacs on the coffee table. She took the card which has her name written on it.

This will serve as my apology for not being very nice to you when you came to me. I hope you like them.

“Good morning.”

Namie’s heart almost jumps out of her system when she sees Sakurai standing behind the couch.

“Ahaha. Good morning.”

“Let’s have breakfast?”

Namie smoothed a hand on her hair. “Sure.”

*

15. August 18, 2008

I like having you here.

The word ‘shock’ would definitely be an understatement of as to how Namie felt when those words came out of Sho’s mouth.

*

16. August 18, 2008

“I like having you here.”

It just slipped.

“I mean, it’s been a while since I had someone live with me.”

Slipped again.

Namie laughs lightly. She stands up and starts to clear the dining table. “Girlfriend?”

Sho stands up and helps her. He hesitates if he should answer and he does…

“No. Nobody special..”

*

17. January 26, 1997

“Oniichan, where are you?” Mai asked the moment he answered the phone.

“I’m on my way home. Why?”

“The Mayuko family is here. Remember them?”

Sho tried to recall.

His sister seemed a little impatient. “They have a daughter named Namie. You remember her, right?”

“Oh her!” He laughed out loud. “I remember her! The girl who looked like she cut her bangs with a zigzag scissor and the girl who had a bad case of bucktooth.”

“Oniichan! You’re one to speak like you have good teeth. Tsk. Just get home now, okay?”

Seventeen minutes later and Sho reached home.

Aside from his parents, there were three other people in their living room; a Mr. Mayuko, a Mrs.Mayuko, and… a girl with nice hair and a perfect smile.

*

18. March 14, 2000

“Please go out with me.”

His heart was beating so loudly against his chest that he thought he’s gone deaf.

They were both sitting on the grass playing scrabble.

As for Namie, she was laughing her heart out, rolling on the grass of their home’s wide backyard.

“Where did that come from?” she asked in between controlled laughter. “You’re kidding, right?”

“I’m serious!” Sho frowned.

“No, you’re not.” She was still laughing. She stood up and dusted off her pants. “Let’s go inside. I’ll cook pancakes.”

Namie walked to the sliding doors and leaned against the frame as she looked at Sho who didn’t move.

“I’m dead serious.. and I don’t need your pancakes.”

“Okaaay..” Namie walked back to him and crouched. “If you watch me makes pancakes, then I’ll go out with you.” And she gave him a peck on the lips. “You’re watching, right?”

*

19. August 19, 2008

They don’t get to talk for the whole day. Sho goes to work earlier than usual and comes home later than usual.

*

20. August 20, 2008

The atmosphere is different that night. Namie feels different, too.

She couldn’t concentrate on the book she is reading and Sho keeps on changing channels.

Namie hears the drier stop; she gets up and goes to the laundry room. She takes out the clothes and places them in a basket. With the basket in her hands, she rests, leaning against the drier. She closes her eyes and pictures in her mind start flashing quickly, one by one.

Hands cover her own hands and she gasps, opens her eyes and there is Sho who takes the basket from her and puts it on top of the drier behind her. Again, he holds her hands, leans forward, and kisses her. She responds and kisses him back. It deepens and she encircles her arms around his neck and he holds her closer to him.

-

Sakurai carries Namie to his bedroom. He lays Namie on his bed and positions himself on top of her, his legs in between her own. As he continues to kiss her, his hands start travel under her shirt and when he start to kiss her neck, she grabbed on to his arms and had him the one lying on his back.

She places her hands on either side of his head. Sho waits. They stay like that, inches apart, staring into each other’s eyes. Sho lifts a hand that runs through her hair and cups her face.

Then, Namie takes a deep breath.

“I don’t eat shrimp because you told me they looked like cockroaches of the sea. I don’t eat shrimp not because I’m allergic to them,” she says. She gets teary-eyed and quickly gets up from the bed.

Her hand just slips from Sho’s when he tries to stop her.

*

21. August 20, 2012

“Na..Namie?” He stands outside the bathroom. The girl doesn’t reply; she doesn’t open. Sakurai sits on the floor and leans against the bathroom door. “I’m sorry,” he says, making sure that it is audible. And then he hears her sob. “You remember?”

He hears a click and the door opens just little; little enough that he could see Namie also sitting on the cold bathroom floor, her knees hugged to her chest, leaning against the wall.

“I’m sorry,” Namie says, turning to face him.

Sho feels that thorn in his heart, which has been stuck there for so long, has finally been removed. It was time to forgive Namie.

*

22. March 15, 2005

“I should go.” Namie tried to get out of Sho’s embrace but he was too stubborn to even budge. He held her tighter. Namie laughed and pinched his side and that got him to let go.Sho kept one arm around her waist though while the other rubbed his side.

“One year seems like forever. Come back, okay?”

“Yes, sir.” Namie cupped his face and kissed him one last time. “I trust that you will behave while I’m gone?”

Sho returned the kiss. “Yes, mam.”

“I love you.”

“I love you.”

*

23. August 27, 2005

Sho stops receiving messages and calls from Namie.

They got into a fight the last time they talked on the phone.

*

24. September 1, 2005

Sho tries to understand that Namie is busy with her internship and it must have been stressing her a lot. He decides to leave her alone and waits for her call.

It is the same day he finds out that Namie’s and his owns parents already had an agreement that their children will be engaged to be married. That means Sho and Namie.

Even though he was still in some sort of fight with Namie, Sho is still happy, knowing that his future will be spent with Namie.

*

25. March 13, 2006

Namie comes home but refuses to meet with Sho.

*

26. March 20, 2006

Sho feels bad about Namie not wanting to look at him in the eye. They are seated in a high-class restaurant with both their parents. The older people looked ecstatic with their upcoming announcement.

“Sho-kun,” Namie father started, “I would like to put our daughter Namie to be under your care next year after she has completely finished her internship in the States.”

Sho’s father addressed Namie’s mother and father next. “And we wish that your daughter would marry our son.”

All eyes were on Namie and Sho.

Namie kept her head down while Sho kept on waiting for her to speak.

“Nam-“

“I’m getting married… to another man.”

Just like that and Sho felt his world crumbling down.

*

27. August 20, 2008

“You fell out of love and I chose not to understand..”

*

28. March 20, 2006

“Why!? Tell me why, Namie!” Sho cried. He didn’t know what to do. One of his knuckles were bleeding as he punched the wall of his living room earlier when he came home to his own apartment. He decided not to stay at his parents’ house because he wanted to be left alone.

But then Namie followed him to explain. She sat on the sofa and kept her head down.

“Can you tell me what I did wrong?” Sho stood in front of Namie. He wanted to hold Namie but he couldn’t. He didn’t know what he was capable of at that moment. He was mad. He was furious. “What did I do wrong?!” he shouted again.

“You didn’t do anything wrong, Sho,” Namie answered, looking up at him.

Sho was breathing heavily. He wiped his face with his palm and closed his eyes. “But why?”

“I don’t know. One day I woke up and I wasn’t in love with you anymore.”

Sho opened his eyes and look straight into Namie’s own. He felt like his heart was being crushed when he figured that what Namie said was true. It was crushed more when the last bit kept on repeating in his head… ”…I woke up and I wasn’t in love with you anymore.”

“I never want to see you again. Leave.”

“Sho….”

“Leave!”

*

29. June 13, 2006

“Niichan, I saw Namie-san at the mall today..”

Sho doesn’t give a reply to his sister. Mai continues.

“She said she still wants to talk to you.”

He still doesn’t reply.

“Niichan, she’s getting married in three mont-“

“Mai, I don’t want to talk about this.”

*

30. September 20, 2006

Sho stayed home all day. He ignored all e-mails and phone calls. He also got himself drunk, wishing that he would forget everything.

“She’s getting married today…”

*

31. August 20, 2008

“You fell out of love and I chose not to understand,” Sho say softly, almost whispering.

The door opens wider and Namie crawls her way out to kneel in front of Sho who was still sitting on the floor.

“I’m sorry,” Namie says to him, weeping. “I hope you forgive me.”

Sho looks at her and his eyes well up with tears. He wiped them away with the back of his hand.

“Namie…” He slowly shook his head.

*

32. July 12, 2008

“Namie! Where are you going?”

She acted like she couldn’t hear Sato, her fiancé. She kept on stuffing her suitcase with her clothes, shoes, and her other things.

“Namie, answer me,” Sato said through gritted teeth.

Namie doesn’t respond. She closes her suitcase and grabs her jacket that hung at the dresser’s chair. She stops when Sato harshly grabs her wrist. She turns to face him.

“I’m going away for a while. It’s not like I’m breaking up with you, Sato.”

Sato’s grip loosens. He sighs. “I know what you’re doing.”

“You don’t.”

“I do. You’re running away because you don’t want to have anything to do with me anymore. You’re doing to me what you did to that guy except you’re being less subtle.”

“Leave Sho out of this, Sato!” Namie hissed.

“When you decided to be with me, I thought, it must [CENSORED] to be that guy,” Sato tried not to choke on his words. “Now I know how he feels.”

Silence.

“Don’t cry.” Despite wearing her angry face, Namie wiped his tears away with her hands. “I told you I just need to go away for a while. I’ll come back. I promise.”

With that, Namie heads to the door, picking up her car keys on her way out.

*

33. July 14, 2008

“Where am I? Who are you?”

“Namie, it’s me, Sato.”

*

34. July 22, 2008

Namie runs away from the hospital and ends up calling Sho.

*

Sho was silently eating lunch when his phone rang. He checked to see who it was and when he did, he had to take a second glance.

Namie

“Hello?” He answered, unsure if he did the right thing. “Na-Mayuko-san?”

It’s been two years since he decided to not have Namie anything to do with his life anymore.

“Sakurai-san? Is it alright if you meet me at the park?”

What?

“Me? Meet you.. at the park?”

*

Sho agreed to meet her. He saw her sitting on one of the benches. He meets eyes with her but she continues to look around. This makes Sho feel uneasy and confused.

“Mayuko-san.”

“A. Good afternoon.” Namie stands and politely bows. “You’re Sakurai Sho?”

Sho’s mouth is slightly open. “What?”

Minutes later he found out that Namie was in an accident and she remembered nothing. With her begging and his pity, he agrees to take her in.

*

35. July 23, 2008

Sho comes home and Namie was already sleeping on the couch. He sees her phone on the side table and picks it up. Careful not to wake her, he opens it and starts to scroll at her phonebook.

Sato Ryota

He copies the number and calls the man the next morning.

*

36. July 24, 2008

Sato agreed to meet Sho after works hours. They met at a restaurant the Sho and Namie used to frequent.

“Good evening,” Sho greeted when he arrives after Sato. The other man acknowledged and gestured for Sho to sit down.

“So she came to you?” Sato didn’t bother to spare a minute and went straight to the point. He smiled bitterly. “How is she?”

“I never bothered to ask about that since she called me.”

The waiter came and the two of them just ordered coffee.

“She was running away the day she got into the accident.”

“Running away from what?” Sho asked, curious but not really caring.

“Me, I guess. I thought she was leaving me like she left you. Our marriage has been on hold for two years. Unbelievable, right?”

Shosighed and leaned back on his seat. “Take her home. It’s really unpleasant that she’s staying with me.”

“No,” Sato immediately replied.

“What?”

“Please, let her stay with you. Please. Until her memories come back.”

“Why? Why with me? Don’t you feel uneasy wanting your fiancée to stay with her ex-boyfriend?”

“I do but there must be a reason why you’re the one she called.”

“And that reason being?”

“Honestly, I don’t know.. But I think Namie does. She promised she will come back to me. I want to know if she really will after her memory comes back.”

*

37. July 25, 2008

He stood by his bedroom’s doorframe, looking at Namie’s sleeping figure.

Sho didn’t know why he agreed to let Namie stay with him.

She promised she will come back to me. I want to know if she really will after her memory comes back.

“If you’re lucky… she will.”

*

38. August 20, 2008

“I’m sorry,” Namie says to him, weeping. “I hope you forgive me.”

Sho looks at her and his eyes well up with tears. He wiped them away with the back of his hand.

“Namie…” He slowly shook his head and then he smiled. “I don’t see the reason why I shouldn’t forgive you. Though, both of us know you’re wrong, I just don’t want to hold on to this heavy feeling I’ve been keeping since the day you gave it to me.”

Namie took Sho’s hands and bowed her head. “I’m sorry,” she cried.

Sho pulled her up to stand and let her bury her face into his chest as he embraced her.

“I forgive you. We’re okay now. Everything’s okay now..”

“Thank you..”

*

39. August 22, 2008

“Are you ready to go?”

Namie picked up her bag. “Yeah.”

“Good..”Sho took the bag from her. “Sato-san is waiting.”

“I know.” Namie smiled.

*

Sho pulled over in front of Sato’s house and the man really was waiting outside.

“Sato-san.” Sho nods at him.

“Namie..” Sato seemed like his breath was taken away upon seeing her again.

“Sho-chan..” Namie held onto Sho’s hand.

*

40. August 22, 2008

Sho looked down at the hand on top of his own before he gazed at Namie. They smiled at each other before the girl turned to Sato and embraced him. Sho fought hard to keep a tear from falling.

He heard Namie whisper something to Sato before the man took her bag and politely said ‘thank you’ and ‘goodbye’ to Sho. When the man was gone, there was a short moment of silence before the two laughed quite sadly.

“Thank you, Sho-chan… thank you so much for everything.”

“I’ll never regret helping you and having you in my life even if it ended like this. You’re welcome.”

Sho accepted the hug from her. He smoothed his hands on her hair and whispered.

“You belong here..”

As of that moment, he was not sure whether or not he would feel sad for losing Namie again, but he did feel glad that Namie was doing things the right way and that was to come back to Sato.

Before Namie fully let go, she kissed him on the cheek.

“Sayounara.”

“Sayounara.”

Sho watched as Namie turned her back and took her steps towards the house but not more than ten steps later, he called out to her.

“Namie!”

Namie turned around. “What?”

Both didn’t move from where they stood.

“Why did you call me?”

Namie shrugged her shoulders with a smile. “I don’t know. Well, I remembered this nursery song and sang it while randomly choosing your name from my phone..”

“Oh.”

“But I could have chosen another name when I saw it was a guy, right? I guess, a part of me said that you were totally the right person to come to and I’m glad about that.”

“I see. I’m glad about that, too,” Sho said sincerely. “I’ll get going. Bye.” He turned his back and headed to his car when, this time, Namie called him.

“Sho-chan!”

“Yes?”

The girl took a deep breath before she flashed him, indeed, a very happy and content smile.

“I’m never going to forget you, Sho-chan.”

Sho didn’t see the need to say anything anymore. He returned her smile and waved at her. As he sat in his car, he watched as Namie disappeared into Sato’s house.

“..And I’m never going to forget you, Namie.”

Hanako Oku: Garnet

As you were dashing on the ground, your back
Was freer then the clouds that floated in the sky
And in the light that illuminates everything, I could even see
The square letters lined up in your notebook

I didn't understand the feeling known as love
So this moment in time that wouldn't return again
Taught me its meaning

I'll sear the days that I spent with you into my chest
So that I'll be all right even if I don't recall them
Even if I were to fall in love with someone else, someday
You'd always be special and important to me
And this season would come around again

When we first talked together after school
I was searching for your smile that no-one else knew about
For some reason, my chest felt painful
To your cheerful voice far away

I feared changing
I felt that we could always stay friends
I thought that there was no such thing as an ending

Within the endless time, the fact that I was able to meet you
Made me stronger than anything else
Even if I were to make a desperate run for tomorrow
You'd always be special and important to me
And this season would come about again

Since the summer when you told me you'll never forget
Time has passed and just now, my tears came spilling down

I'll sear the days that I spent with you into my chest
So that I'll be all right even if I don't recall them
Even if I were to fall in love with someone else someday
You'd always be special and important to me
And this season would come around again
