Let's just put it this way.

This mentality - "NO ONE IS GAY UNTIL THE CREATOR SAYS SO" - fucking hurts on a level I can't articulate without freaking out.

It hurts even more with a character who so far has been portrayed as not being in a relationship by the end of the film. In fact the only canon relationship ever mentioned in Legacy is Flynn/Jordan and she died off-screen ( Read more... )

fandom: tron & legacy, core: race and class and gender, ace like me, things that can't be ignored, opinion matters but not yours, 2011, movies that blow socks off

Judging by everyone's responses I failed to get my point across in the post. It's less about Sam/Quorra in the TRON franchise and more about Sam/Quorra as a face for the almost inevitable het ship in mainstream media. That's really what I'm afraid of - that they'll take something very sibling-like and gen and turn it into a relationship because it's just how it goes. I don't have a lot of faith in TPTB, even if this is a Disney franchise.

ace = asexual? if so i'm with you on that one, I really don't see any defined sexuality for anyone, cept course good ol kevin.

I have slowly been struggling my way through writing a asexual!Sam/Tron fic actually. it's slow going and frustrating but the end results should be alright

Actually, I totally read the Sam/Quorra thing as a brother/sister relationship.

I didn't articulate well in the entry. It's less about Sam/Quorra as it is and more about Sam/Quorra as the creators could turn it into. It's like how everyone assumes everyone is straight until proven otherwise - everyone will be paired up with somebody else of the opposite sex until shown/proven otherwise.

I'll say here what I said over there: I don't like the feeling that in some universes, I would not exist because I am bisexual, because in those universes, everyone is heterosexual unless they are the Designated Gay. In some universes, it is not canonically okay for some characters to be quietly and discreetly gay, or quietly bisexual, or quietly asexual, and g-d forbid anyone actually be TRANSGENDERED. And that is not okay with me. I would not want to live in such a universe, but it overjoys the fuck out of me to go around queering up these universes so WE CAN EXIST.
