So what goes on in *your* pants?

Aug 26, 2009 14:04

I think I'm out of my mind or something because I've been ALL over this ontd_political post since this morning.

So the question is this...

What sexuality do you most identify with?

Me? I identify most with the area between heteroromantic and biromantic asexual.

core: race and class and gender, ace like me, 2009, opinion matters but not yours, observations of the week, core: history and culture and society, culture & clash

I'll tell people I'm straight, but my friends insist I'm asexual. I really hate the entire idea of "sexual orientation" altogether. The older I get the less I believe a realistic classification system is possible to create. I often pose people the question, when they challenge me on it, "What does gay mean?" Or "What is straight?" And I've never gotten the same answer twice. So... yes. Personally, I say I'm human and that's all that matters. At the right time with the right person anything is possible. And if it never happens, it never happens.

Whenever I say I'm something I also mean "and all its variations" because - especially after reading all the comments on the post - it's fucking impossible pigeonhole someone over something like sexuality and self-identity.

Ngl, though, I also do this for the lolz. How many people do you meet who say s/he is asexual? Not a whole lot.

True, true.

*shrug* Actually, I know a fair few these days. When I was a teenager everyone was all you're straight or gay even if you won't admit it and bisexuals are liars and it's impossible to be asexual. But, one of my best friends identifies as asexual, too, and we bond over it and I see it in the wild more and more. Someone else on my flist made a post just like this not a month ago and identified as asexual. And then a few weeks before that another girl I knew went on a tirade about bisexual erasure.... and I could go on, but I'll restrain. =X

Huh. Irl I'm the only one I know. I've met one or two lesbians and bi, a number of gay men, and everyone else comes off as straight. Of course online it's a whole new ball game, 8D

I think if you replace "asexual" with "bisexual," that's pretty much me.

I am pretty much straightforwardly heterosexual, but pretty much nothing is going on there because a) it's haaaaaaaaard to find guys that aren't douches (OR AT LEAST JUST TALLER THAN ME GOD, I am 5'9/176cms, not six foot something!) and I just can't be bothered to waste my time desperately searching because my hobbies and the rest of my life fulfills/occupies me well enough and b) I personally don't feel attractive enough to warrant naked times with some dude in the future, and am still too lazy to do anything about it, so I keep ignoring this. A++ strategy, I know.

My sexuality is fictional. Or at least, I'm more sexually attracted to/stimulated by the fictional than the real.

Most people would just call me bi, though. xD
