Lonely. That’s what Shirota had been feeling lately. It’s been a while since he decided to be independent and then living alone in his rented apartment, but still, sometimes this loneliness haunted him. Every time he came home to his empty apartment, he felt like he himself has become empty. Shirota’s often feeling ashamed of himself to feel like that. That he can’t be alone. That’s why he usually kept himself busy with works.
But it wasn’t really a good idea, because it made him fatigued and easily fell ill. Just like now, he caught a cold. He got his days off, but it made him lonelier. He’d rather went to work and meet many people than lay sprawled on his bed, alone in his apartment.
Shirota drank his medicine and then forced himself to sleep even if it’s still in the afternoon. He had been lack of sleep. His mom told him on the phone to get some sleep or she would come to Shirota’s place and take care of him. And Shirota obediently say yes to his mother immediately.
--------------------
It was dark. Shirota’s eyes barely can see anything. Then Shirota saw his family, his friends, his fellow D-Boys, and his co-actors when he was still playing Tezuka in TeniMyu… but they’re so far away. Shirota try to run towards them and reach out his hand, but the distance wouldn’t shorten. Then Shirota realized that he must be dreaming.
‘I’m alone even in my dream, huh… pathetic,’ Shirota told himself.
Shirota was about to drown in his loneliness when suddenly he heard a familiar voice calling out his name.
“…ta… Shirota…”
‘Who is that?’
“Shirotan?” a soft voice woke him up from his dream. Shirota blinked his eyes, and then he saw Aiba’s worried face upon him. Aiba was sitting on a chair next to his bed. He must have brought the chair from the dining room.
“Aibacchi?” Shirota tried to get up, but Aiba held him back. His eyes were telling him to lay still. Shirota glanced at the clock on his wall. It was almost ten. Well, Shirota remembered that he sent Aiba an email telling the younger boy that he caught a cold, but he didn’t expect Aiba to show up in the very same day. He must have come in with the spare key Shirota gave him. “How long have you been here?” Shirota asked. He was wondering if Aiba was just dropped by from his work.
“Well, about half an hour. I thought I shouldn’t wake you up, but you were mumbling in your sleep. Were you having a bad dream? How are you feeling?” Aiba asked as he put his palm on Shiota’s forehead. It was warm. The fever hasn’t really gone yet.
“I’m okay. I was only having a bad dream,” Shirota replied with a smile. He was glad that it was just a bad dream. At least, now he’s not alone. Aiba’s here for him.
“I’ll make some porridge. Only an instant one, though… but you need to eat something and then have your medicine,” Aiba said as he stood up, but Shirota suddenly caught his hand.
“I’m not hungry yet. Please stay here for a bit longer?” Shirota made a pleading face. He didn’t want to be left alone. Not after the loneliness that had been haunted him, and after that kind of dream he just woke up from.
Aiba looked at Shirota, wondering why the older boy acted like a spoiled little kid. But then he thought, most people will become spoiled when they fell ill, so Aiba sat down and patted Shirota’s head. “Okay, but only for 10 more minutes. I need to make you eat.”
“Thanks,” Shirota replied with a wide smile.
“You become such a spoiled brat when you’re sick, eh? I’ll note that,” Aiba teased him.
“Well, since it’s a rare opportunity to have you visit me here. It can’t be help though, since we’re both busy. But still, I missed you, Aibacchi…”
Aiba’s face turned scarlet from Shirota’s words. He then pinched Shirota’s nose and said, “Idiot! I’m here now, aren’t I?”
“Yeah. Thanks for being here for me,” said Shirota while putting this gentle expression on his face.
Aiba looked at Shirota’s face for a moment, and then sighed. “Yappari, I can’t let you live alone like this. Just look at you now. You can’t even take care of your own body. Don’t overwork yourself,” Aiba was grumbling to Shirota, but the older boy was just smiling for he knew that that’s due to Aiba’s worrying over him.
“I’m sorry, AIbacchi. But you know, I’d rather work because I’d feel lonely as soon as I got home… I’d always wanted to call you, but I don’t want to disturb you because you must be busy or tired. That’s why I only sent you emails,” Shirota explained while he accidentally put a lonely smile on his face.
Aiba felt a bit guilty, even if he knew that Shirota wasn’t blaming him at all. Both of them were so busy, but he told himself that he could at least give the older boy a call once a day, even if it’s just for a few minutes, since he knew that Shirota was too worried he would disturbing him. But the same goes for Aiba too. Aiba was afraid that he would bother Shirota. One thing Aiba didn’t notice was that Shirota could easily felt lonely.
“You know, I’ll be 20 soon,” Aiba started talking. He looked to Shirota’s eyes. “My parents said that I could live alone once I’m 20. And I already told them that I was planning to share apartment with you so that it would be cheaper since we could split the rent. They had agreed.”
Shirota looked surprised and happy at the same time. His eyes were widening, and so was his smile. “That means…”
“Yeah, I’m telling you that I can move in here by next month. So you better get well soon and make the preparation for my coming,” Aiba smiled as he poked Shirota’s nose.
“Okay, I’ll get rid of this fever immediately,” Shirota said happily. He was planning to not only get rid of his fever, but also his loneliness. Aiba will be living here soon. He won’t need to be lonely. “Oh, by the way,” Shirota looked like he just remembered something. “Since your birthday is coming, what do you want as a present?”
“Hmm… anything’s fine. Just don’t buy me clothes with your weird fashion sense,” Aiba grinned. Shirota faked a pout. “Oh, but I do have a request,” Aiba said suddenly.
“What is it? Tell me. I’ll get it for you as long as I can.”
“No, it’s not like that. It’s just…” Aiba stopped for a while. He seemed a bit hesitant. And after he closed his eyes for a second and took a deep breath, he asked, “Can I call you by your name? Since ‘Yuu’ is simpler than ‘Shirota’…”
Shirota’s lips formed a smile from Aiba’s reddening face. “Then, I’ll call you Hiro-chan, okay?” he said happily.
Aiba pouted a little. “What’s with the ‘chan’? But ah, well… up to you,” Aiba murmured. Shirota’s smile was widening
“You know, Hiro-chan, I reeeaaaaally wanted to kiss you right now.”
“Huh? Why all of a sudden…” Aiba blushed even more.
“But you’d get infected if I do that, so… can I hold your hand instead?” Shirota asked a bit too innocently.
Aiba fell silent for a moment. “Idiot. You should know that you don’t need to ask for something like that,” Aiba muttered as he gave his hand for Shirota to hold.
“Thanks,” Shirota replied as he held Aiba’s hand.
“And if it’s just a kiss, I can give you one,” Aiba said as he bent down for his lips to met Shirota’s. Shirota could taste chocolate in Aiba’s lips. He must’ve eaten some chocolates Shirota kept in his fridge just in case Aiba come over.
Shirota was trying to separate from Aiba’s lips so that the younger boy wouldn’t get infected by him, but Aiba insisted, and Shirota could only do nothing since he felt so good.
--------------------
The next day, it was Aiba who lay sprawled on Shirota’s bed due to cold, while Shirota had fully recovered.
“Hiro-chan, I made you some porridge,” Shirota said softly as he sat on the edge of his bed. “Here, say ‘aaah’.”
Aiba opened his mouth and let the older boy feed him. The porridge tasted pretty good, and he knew it wasn’t an instant porridge. So Aiba thought, he wouldn’t have to worry about food once he lived with Shirota.
Aiba swallow his porridge and sighed.
“What is it?” Shirota asked gently.
“Nah… it’s just…” Aiba stopped to look at Shirota, who looked so fresh and healthy and full of energy. He didn’t look like someone who had fever the night before. “Really… the fastest way to recover from a cold is to get someone infected directly, eh…”
