But Derek is stubborn when it comes to certain things, and he figures if he insists often enough, maybe, just maybe, the cosmos will return their son to them sooner rather than later.
So while Jun sands, he's in the kitchen with screws and metal door tabs and a screw driver, making sure that the cabinets within reach of little baby hands cannot be opened by said hands.
He's praying under his breath, and talking sometimes. To who, it's hard to tell, but it isn't Jun.
When Jun enters the kitchen, she sees Derek's activity and raises both eyebrows. But, she makes not comment. Rather, she runs her fingers up the back of his neck in passing. She opens the refrigerator, pulls out a pitcher of chilled water, an orange, and a lime. She peels half of each fruit then cuts the unpeeled portion in thin strips. Those go into a second pitcher of water. She fills the second pitcher, careful to let the water splash only so high. She likes the look of the water drops as they catch the light.
She fills two glasses with water and a round of fruit. She retrieves her prescription medicines from their bottles on the kitchen table and between sips of water downs them all.
He makes a pleased sound and a line of goosebumps follow in the wake of her fingers.
After a moment, once he's sure this newest catch is in place and won't be shaken or pulled lose, ducks his head out of the cabinet and reaches up to take the other glass of water. The other hand wraps gently around one of Jun's calves and rubs it for a moment; half massage and half affection. He doesn't say anything; he's been quiet a lot lately, at least on the verbal front.
