Great manifesto! I don't really know the Bleach fandom that well (I've only seen the English dub), but this pairing looks interesting and I'll check out the fan fiction.

I have to say that what first drew me to the essay was that fact that you said it wasn't necessarily something you expected to happen in canon, which is the opposite of what most people saying in their essays-this must happen, it will happen, and if not the author is a terrible person, etc. That gets old.

But the essay itself was both imaginative and enjoyable, and I think I'll go check out the fanworks now. Thanks you sharing!

Thank you so much - and I very much agree, it DOES get old.

Unless the fandom is a romance, romantic relationships are going to be a secondary part of the work. I find it extremely ridiculous when people start bitching and moaning about who gets with who, particularly in SHOUNEN manga series. It's not about the relationships! I also find it not as fun - I enjoy dappling in other Grimmjow pairs, this one is just the one I like the most. Why limit yourself? It's fandom, it's supposed to be fun!
