Thanks so much for writing this! I'm a new Doctor Who fan, and all I've seen are the two seasons of the new series. It was really great to read this history of Sarah Jane and the Doctor. She was so intriguing (and heartbreaking!) in School Reunion, and it is so great to see the pics in this article and have a little context.

Lovely, lovely pics! Four was my first Doctor, and SJ my first companion, so for me this is what it's all about. I wept at the end of Hand of Fear, and I got teary again at the look of sheer joy on his face seeing her again in School Reunion. Sarah and the Doctor are partners, parts of each other that go beyond shipping. Which showed in SR when even after 30 years apart, she is the one who is his conscience and moral compass (and who he automatically gives the sonic screwdriver to over Rose! Hee!)

Thanks. Nine is my Doctor--I'm a newgeneration fan--but Four-era makes me meep with glee.

The moral-compass bit was wonderful. He needs someone to be that, and if not Rose why not Sarah? I like how you phrased that--"beyond shipping". They so are. 8)

Woo for SJ/Four. It's nice to see some older DW 'ships get a nod. And I totally agree with you about the types of love, and the way to describe Nine/Rose versus Four/Sarah (and Ten/Rose, in my mind).

Plus all the pictures were fantastic. Good job!

Exactly! Old-school needs love too! I keep expecting someone to do something on Two/Jamie/Zoe--I'm a friendshipper for them, but they have a lot of fans, I thought.

Great manifesto! :D SJ's not "my" Companion BARBARA but I love her dearly and Lis Sladen is gorgeous and hasn't aged in YEARS and YEARS and she had a really lovely chemistry with all "her" Doctors but especially Four and you've captured that nicely here. &hearts &hearts &hearts
