Aaah, there's no shame in being an older fan. 'Course, I've noticed on certain Naruto forums you practically qualify for the senior discount just by being old enough to vote. ;)
Hee! I've always thought there might be something between these two, but you've obviously thought about it a lot more. The arguments were well presented and convincing, and now you've got me thinking about it too.
I think the major thing between them is that it's not about passion and discovery of the other; they already know each other inside out, and passion is for kids. But they still have a familiarity and comradry and a long shared past. So, perhaps not passion, or not often, but tenderness, and trust, and a way they have of being totally aware of each other's glaring defaults, and only seeing these fault not as faults, but "that's just how he/she is"... argh, I can't put my finger on it, but somehow they already have the old-married-couples vibe. XD
So yes! gone from "hmm, why not" to "oh yeah". Thank you. ^__^
I'm not 100% convinced by your essay (cards on table : I have trouble thinking about any 2 of the Sannin without automatically dragging the 3 into it, and I always envisage team dynamics first.) but it was certainly an interesting read.
I think in Jiraiya’s mind, it’s high time Tsunade came home, and if accomplishing that means embarking on a wild goose chase with a hyperactive twelve-year-old, so be it. Eh. Personally I'm following the idea that Jiraiya went "We need a strong Hokage - someone who could fight and maybe defeat Orochimaru, and I'm not gonna do it. 'Sides Tsunade has more legitimacy than I do. For the people who care." (One of the criteria for becoming Hokage is, after all, "being the strongest ninja of the village". *facepalms*)
(Plus, it’s both amusing and far too easy to imagine Jiraiya as the “Hokage’s mistress.”)...You know, I now have the mad urge to go and read fics. Oh yes. Yes I do. That'll change from my personal favourite scenarios, which tend to
